I just completed my first shave with a Schuyler I bought off the Classifieds, I just have to say wow this thing feels like im shaving with a ax after such a light disposable blade. Its a nice feeling but after 3 passes im fairly well shaved but not BBS, other than the angle change are there other technique changes I should be aware of?
Which classidfieds?
Maybe it's not shave ready?

Using a real straight is different than a shavette type razor. you need a lower angle and less pressure. You will not always get a 'bbs' or "fss" shave and people who claim to might have a different standard. Shaving is beard reduction not removal, each pass takes a little more off but stop at 3 passes (maybe a little touch up in trouble spots but that is it)
Careful stropping of your new razor is important to keep it shaving well 20 on the canvas and 40 on the leather should be fine.
what kind of lathering system are you using i hope a brush and soap or cream, the goo in the can will work in an emergency but really does not cushion enough for a straight.
read the beginner's tips and you will be doing fine

Thanks, I am using Clasic Shaving Bay Rum soap and a Van Der Hagen brush, I have been using soap and brush since I was using a cartridge razor and It has always worked well for me. Ill give it a few more days to get the feel of It before I do anything drastic.Quote:
