This has been covered but still having some issues

It is a snowy day here in NJ. So I just got finished with my shave this morning and it's pretty smooth except I am still having an issue against the grain under the chin. I have tried every different angle I can think of to do this. My hair grows from left to right there; I have been shaving with the handle all the way open so that the end of the scale almost touches the spine of the razor, then I hold that and try to make short buffing strokes. Even with this grip it is very hard/awkward. It didn't even do a great job cutting. I had to do a fourth path shaving up, which for me is xtg. That did it but wow it's a freakin pain. It also took me an hour and a half not including all of the prep. I don't know if I should give up doing ATG down there and maybe do three XTG, one down, two up. I don't think it will give me as good of a shave though so any suggestions are welcome. I enjoy the entire shaving process except for that part.

For me ATG under the chin is a no go. It doesn't matter what razor or angle I'm using.

So I just go as close as I can and settle for that.

Yes I was thinking about that, but the OCD side of me let me. If it's not buttery smooth I get a little disappointed.

There's a couple - quite separate parts here.
BBS: A whole lotta guys think its either not possible or not practical for themselves. There's also the amount of carnage you're willing to endure in chasing it. I can do a 20 min. or less shave and have a fine shave if I don't need the most difficult areas to be super smooth. They're still as good or better than any other shaving method - but pursuing BBS there would at least double the shaving time. Sometimes its worth it. Usually not. So you may be able to get the difficult area w/ practice, but it make take alot more time & 'pinklather' while you develope the skill to clean that area.

So that there's 1) is it possible, 2) how much effort is it worth to learn the technique.

In terms of enjoyment, my regular shaves are about 95% bbs, and the rest is dang good. This is enjoyable. Getting the last 5% is less enjoyable, but more of a challenge - so I need some reason/motivation to put in the effort.

I shave ATG on my neck all the time. What really cleans it up however is shaving down, from the center of my chin on a 45 degree angle back to my shoulder. That pass iswhat really seems to clean up the stubble. Try all different angles, you'll find which ones clean the stubble best.

Okay so I am going to keep a journal to keep track of my diagonal strokes. Different strokes for different folks. Lamo but it was in my head. Anyway, I think if I get the angles right than it should be easier after that. Finding the right angles is key, so on the search for the bbs under the chin with no pink in the sink.
