Is this a good razor for a beginner?

Hey guys, I just got my first straight razor from the classifieds section of this wonderful site and I have a few questions as a newbie.

It is a Erik Anton Berg hollow 5/8 straight razor, which the vender says is shave-ready.

It is relatively cheap, compared to the cheapest DOVO which is like 80 dollars.

My question is - does anyone know anything about the brand and how good it is? Is this razor specifically a good razor for a beginner? How long should it last with proper care?

A good starter. With proper care it will last you the rest of your life.

Often you will find very good deals in the classified. Anton bergs are very nice razor they tend to be smallish (less than 5/8) and therefore very light in the hand. they hone up fairly easily and hold a nice edge.

a razor with only minor care will last a couple lifetimes, the edge though will need to be honed regularly.

As has been said already, Eric Anton Bergs are a very good quality razor and should suit a new shaver fine.

Hi! Im sure some of the guys that know a lot more about razors than I do will chime in and give you their opinion and help you out. From what I can tell in the pics the razor looks fine. As for being a good razor for a beginner thats a good question. I done a lot of reading up in the begginers forum before I bought my first razor. Something to think about is square point vs round point. I went with the round point and Im glad I did.. I also took some advice and went with a 6/8. I picked up a 5/8 square point not long after I bought the 6/8. For me the 6/8 was easier to master and I had a lot less cuts too.. Good Luck and have fun!!!
