I recently received my brand new straight razor from SRD. So far I am loving it. I just was thinking. Wouldn't it be possible to spread things such as Hepatitis through honing services? I know my razor is new but what if my razor was sharpened on a stone that was just used to repair a razor for a customer that has hepatitis?
I do own some stuff I bought at Sallys beauty supply that barbers use to sterilize there equipment.
Should I use that on my razor to be on the safe side?

I believe that SRD uses Barbicide post test shave. Soap up and ENJOY!
No worries. The only disease I can think of would be carpel tunnel syndrome and the honer would have to worry about that, not the end user. Enjoy your shave.
If you need to do something to personally make the razor double, triple, super safe, then wipe it down with rubbing alcohol for 20 seconds or so.
I just bought some barbicide from Sally Beauty Supply. It's cheap and it makes my wife feel better. A 2 minute soak and you are good to go. Small price to pay for peace of mind.

SRD does use a barbricide type disinfectant to kill hepatitis and HIV. Not only that but doing research for when I started purchasing used straights the viruses cannot live long outside the body and cannot live at all with liquid. If you do use barbicide, make sure you're *only* putting the blade in!
Not too long ago someone posted pics here of a nice DublDuck (Goldedge methinks?) whose beautiful creamy scales were turned a strange turquoise-blue-green shade after a soak in barbicide. :)
Thanks for easing my mind everyone. I know SRD is reputable so I wasn't as worried as I would have been buying a used razor on the bay. I guess it wouldn't hurt to give the blade a short soak in Barbacide (since I already own some).
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a distinct possibility, but so is tendonitis in the elbow, rotator cuff inflammation and repetitive trauma causing arthritic involvement in the carpal joints, wrist, elbow and shoulder. All of these possibilities are good reasons to avoid honing as much as possible. The problem is that repetitive stropping causes the same problems. Buy a Feather SS and avoid all of it!

SRP uses something similar to barbricide. You can use it yourself to ease your worries. Try not to get it on the scales. Also hepatitis, HIV/AIDS cannot live outside the body for very long at all.
