Default Hello everyone! I need a help for Straight Razor.

    Hello everyone,

I ve been interesting about traditional shaving for 3 months and i am reading lots of articles. First i owned a Safety razor from Edwin Jagger DE89 and its cool. Now i am intersting in Straight razors. I live in Hungary and i only can get the items online. But i actually have no idea about which Straight razor shall i start with. I be been looking to Dovo Best Quallity 5/8 and 6/8 but cant be sure about which is the best and also i am thinking about Thiers-Issard razors too. My budget is around 140$-150$ for razor and strop. I checked out some website like ebay, amazon but i couldnt find proper razors not even Dovo. Some websites i found are in usa and im wondering because of custom fees prices will be higher. So what i actually need is your advised for a good razors Dovos, Thiers-Issard etc. and a good website that i can order from europe.

    Best Regards.

I started with a Dovo Best Quality, great razor. I wanted something not too expensive to learn to hone and shave with. This razor will take a great edge. I have the 6/8 and like it lots, although I have never used a 5/8.

    Cheers

    Hi
Theres lots of places where you can find straight razors. Larry from whipped dog.com is a great guy to do business with.

If youre concerned about customs in the EU (like I am), theres some fine placed like this that sells dovo : Rasiermesser - Messer Roedter gegr. 1909 scharferLaden.de Messer Kochmesser Rasiermesser Scheren aus Solingen Laden Versand Schleiferei if you write them that you want it shaveready (they dont all came ready to shave from factory) you just write them a note when you pay saying "rasurfertig"). they have a pretty good service.

Also DOVO - body care + nassrasur Rasiermesser nicht rostfrei have some ok deals on dovo, but they dont hone the razors.

If you rather go go with a thiers-issard theres the invisible edge in UK. Straight Razors from what I heard Thiers-issard come shave ready from the factory, but I dont own any myself, so I cannot say for sure

Happy hunting and welcome to SRP

No experience with Dovo razors but I have not heard too much bad about the Best Quality blade. Either 5/8 or 6/8 is a good size to start on. The size is a personal preference thing and I tend to like the 6/8 size but do use 5/8 size blades also. I would say to go with a 3 inch wide strop and eliminate the need to learn the X stroke when learning to stropping. There are several European suppliers that I have seen, Shaving ie and Thiers-Issard UK. Just saying I have looked at the sites but have no experience ordering from either so this is for information only and NOT a recommendation. Some of our European members could chime in on that.

invisible edge and theirs-issard is managed by the same guy, as far as I know....I havent ordered razors but I bought some other stuff, and they have a good service as far as I am concerned.

I have a Dovo best quality 5/8 myself that I´m quite happy with....Unfortunately i just dropped it by accident yesterday and chipped the edge (1 mm).

Now that I have both, I would go with the Thiers Issard.

    Thanks for replying to everyone.

I already checked invisible edge and seemed pretty good, but everything is out-of-stock now. I will probably get the 6/8 and if i can find a Thiers-Issard with good price i will get one of them and with a 3" strop. Why i confused is just in somewhere Dovo dosnt produce good quality razors as before but Thiers-Issard is always fine. I will check out the other websites to. But do you know any website in europe (German,French etc.) other than UK page that i can buy Thiers-Issard?

    Best Regards
