I don't think the idea is to oil the blade daily, the idea is to have a routine to ensure that the blade is dry, and there is no moisture that can cause rust.
Obviously, between the scales is important, and even more so, the pivot area must be dry, and you can't really get any tissue in that area. Hence, making sure you get no, or as little moisture in that area as possible, and if you do, make sure it is air dried thoroughly. If you put oil on the pivot area and there's still moisture present, all your doing is allowing the oil to seal the water against the blade.
Dry, moisture free storage is key.
