Default Whats wrong with my Shave?

I start by letting the water warm up, hot water is important. Next I get my burma shave brush wet, put it in the stoneware mug with the shave soap and work up a good lather. I got all of my equipment from walmart and have been using it for a few months, I think I am pretty good at (accept on cold mornings often my lather feels cold on my face), I had a styptic pencil but I left it by the sink and water got to it, it was still slightly round, by sharp and pointy all over like some evil landscape. So now I have the lather on my face and I reach into the cabinet to get my razor, because I am about to shave, and I pull out a mach 3 gillette and proceed to shave, right cheek, left cheek, right side of the neck, left side of the neck, directly under the shin, then I do mustache and chin, next I go against the grain, finally I put some toner or aftershave on. However I am not really satisfied with my shave, its not as close or as comfortable as it should be (also it costs to much per shave) I think I am missing something.....

You're missing a proper straight razor.
