Sometimes we all go through "phases". Don't worry. Have you checked your edge(s)? Sometimes cuts happen as the edge dulls because we start to use too much pressure.

I was just being a little sarcastic. I just wasn't paying attention and swiped instead of swooshed. I still think reading this thread jinxed me though.
Ah. Yes, swiping will do it, particularly if you were expecting a swoosh. We should start a superglue thread for people who swish.

I use a styptic now a day's never, in the beginning when i start whit a DE and the str8t often.
Alum block, hold under a cold tap.. yes ,....love the feeling after a shave before i use after shave.
I already answered, but I would like to point out that *I* view using a styptic in a similar light to using pre-shave oil, or any other voluntary subjective choice.
I see NO shame, or symbol of inexperience, or sign of ineptness in anyone's decision to use a styptic. Further, I'm not impressed by a claim of never using one.
We all deal with shaving differently, and some face-scapes are impossible to shave without an occasional weeper (or even not-so-occasional).
Some choose TP, some choose alum, some just bleed and clot. It's all good. Perhaps no one feels shame here, and perhaps no one is perpetrating macho by scoffing the styptic. I just want to let everyone know that we are ALL wet shavers and therefore, we ALL probably understand that there are a lot of personal choices.
Peace and love to all:)
When you are on plavix and eat advil like candy, than you will know the rest of the story.
what exactly is a stryptomatic pencil?
lol ive never used one but thats just because its so tiny that ive always forgotten to order one. if i ever do get cut/nicked i just tell myself "Hey! Shaver! Leave them nicks alone!"
I said almost never, but with that, I will add that although I seldom use a styptic pencil, I've found that when you actually need one (i.e. you've cut yourself) there's nothing I've found that work's better.
I agree completely with you!! I'm older and even with a DE I seem to get occasional weepers! Are weepers bothersome? Yes! Tolerable? Yes! Worth the end results of using a straight?? DEFINITELY YES!!!!!!!!:y
I have a septic pencil that I've used for over a year and I just bought a replacement for it!!! The only reason I'm replacing it is because when I hold it I don't dry my hands, the water makes the compound slowly melt away!! So where I hold it, it became so thin that it broke!!
What the Hell! $2 after a year!?! Beats the Hell out of $20+ for a pack of %@^&*($%^%^$+%^&%#^#$ FANCY 3+blades Disposables that gave me ingrown hairs and razor burn not to mention emptying my wallet to make corporate America rich!!!:tu
And I will say thanks to posting in this thread I needed mine today.
Well it was probably due to trying a different technique on my chin :p
But I am going to blame this thread....
Around about my hundredth shave, Tenth in a row with a Puma i have been experimenting with, and took a fillet below my chin. I mean you could have deep fried that sucker, and Hannibal would have scoffed it down. Well not that bad, but you get the idea. Styptic rarely comes out these days, but lesson learned. Never hurry, Zen time.
What's a styptic pencil?
{edit} seriously though, I never cut myself. Maybe two nicks in all the time I've shaved with a straight.
Ya, every once in a while. I'm usually pretty careful. Actually the spots that I get nicked at most are not even hard spots to shave. Just might have a hint of razor bump or acne and all it takes is a pass too many and the blade over exfoliates and opens it up. no big deal. in fact most of the time if their not serious cuts they just heal on their quickly or get taken care of with the good ol' alum block.
I use my alum block. If the alum block doesn't close it then I break out the styptic pencil. Funny thing though... I learned to take it out of its tube before a shave as slippery hands caused it to fall and I have three pieces of a pencil in the tube now.
I'm the same way. Knock wood, I've only nicked myself once with my straight while shaving my face -- caught the edge of my lip. Most of my nicks occur on my scalp when I use my safety razor to shave my head. And those little suckers bleed like crazy, so I have to go straight to the styptic pencil.
Yep needed one today didn't have one because I have cleaned out my travel bag and must of forgot to put it back in.
Just put a small nick on my chin which I normally would not be overly concerned about but it's my best mates wedding and I'm a groomsmen.
It healed up with a bit of water and my Alum block.
I hardly ever use it, but I do have one just in case.
Haven't used one in a while. Good to have, I sliced my ear lobe a couple months ago. Cold water rinse does it for me and the alum after. But I have to get another one as they always just fade away if you know what I mean!
The last time I used a styptic was about a year ago.Now that I've said that I'll probably need it tonight!
