Slight restoration

I bought a razor on ebay and I have a couple of things to "fix" which I could use some help:

Rust - There were a few rust spots on the razor including the spine. I used a trick I found here about a ball of aluminum foil which worked great and got rid of the crusty part but what is left is almost a gray tarnish. I have been using MAAS on that spot. It's smooth now but still with the tarnish. Do I just keep at it with the MAAS? Will it eventually come out?

Pivot - there is rust at the pivot. I don't know how to get in there. So I have to disassemble the scales and work on it from there? As a result of the rust and a very tight pin, it's quite a bit of effort to open the razor. But I don't know how to unpin the scales. The scales appear to be in excellent shape.

I discovered a way to unpin the scales:

However, I don't have any pins lying around... Maybe I'll try to clean it up enough without removing them...

The black under rust is sometimes called devils spit. If you take it out, it leaves behind pitting. And it's not the easiest to get out in the first place. I'd probably leave it until you've practiced on some blades you don't care about. Unless you don't care about that one.

I got the blade for the purposes of learning to hone. I got it for $25 so I'm not worried about damaging it (although I'm doing my best not to :)).

So how do you get rid of that "devils spit"?
