Stropping during a shave
Hey,
Having shaved woth a straight for the first time just now, it went great, closer and less burn/nicks than before, though by no means perfect but I found I had to strop a couple of times during it, as the razor seemed like it wasn't cutting as well, thoough was fine afterwards.
Basically, is this normal, should I be doing more passes when I strop initially? (did 20 linen and 30 leather). I do have a pretty tough beard if that could be the reason.

Newly honed razors sometimes exhibit this characteristic. Strop as needed. I do like to do about 50 or 60 laps before each shave. Our research indicates that we can prolong the life of the edge that way.

xman,
is that 50 or 60 strops on both the linen and leather, or just the leather?

Just the leather. I do about 12 on the linen before that.

Just be careful that you dry your razor properly.
Getting water on the leather is not advisable.
At least, my loom strop didn't like it one bit.
