I just aquired an older brush, the hair on this thing is uber long, and as nice as it is it is a little long for my likeing. Could I cut the hair down to my wanted length or is that not advised????

The tips will be thicker and sharper. Ive heard people trimming a brush and then using the brush on sandpaper to taper the ends. I have never tried it so no first hand here.

Here is my suggestion. You might end up ruining what you have. Buy yourself another brush with a shorter loft and keep this one for your deeper mugs.

I think when they trim a brush it's done from the back side not the front. I you trim the brush from the top the qualities of the hair are changed since the hair itself varies as you go along the shaft.
Trimming a brush by the way is not as easy as it looks if you want to do a proper job.
