Same brush...different scents?

I couldn't wait for my brush to arrive, so I bought a Van Der Hagen brush at Wal-Mart, and tried it with a dab of the sandalwood scent cream from The Art of Shaving. All went well, but I noticed that the brush had retained some of the scent after I'd thoroughly (?) rinsed it. That got me thinking: when one switches between products with different scents, how do you get rid of the traces of the previous scent? I know some of you guys have a metric buttload of soaps and creams, so how do you manage?

PLEASE don't tell me you have different brushes for each product!!! :eek:

It's hair; it's going to hold onto a scent somewhat no matter what you do. Shampooing your brush can help, but really there's nothing you can clean it with that won't smell like something and the brush'll retain that smell. Personally, I love mixing my products together to form more complex scents as well as to get "superlather" effects.
My favorite (also my girl's favorite, which may account for it being my fave) is to mix T&H Trafalgar with Kiss My Face Key Lime.
But no matter what I use, the scent on the brush not only does not change the scent I'm using, it also will be replaced by whatever I used last.

I'll tell you the truth, I have probably 8 brushes and around 15 soaps and I rotate all of them and after being properly rinsed out with water not a single one of them has any trace of scent. I find just about every shave soap leaves no trace even on you when you rinse it off and even the few that linger like Xpec for instance will disappear after proper washing.

thebigspendur: Could you define "properly rinsed"? I've rinsed my brush multiple times, including working it in my palm as I would when making lather, and the fragrance is STILL detectable.

I rinse my brushes quite well after shaving in warm water, then squeeze the water out and give them a shake. At times there is a mild lingering scent but usually it doesn't last long. It definitely goes away after the pre shave soak the next time.

I rotate 2 brushes at a time, on the third day the first brush only has a clean smell, regardless of the soap.

Another thing to keep in mind, folks, is variations in olefactory sensitivity; DoD, for example, may not have as keen a nose as you, Dzanda. Unless, of course, he has some sort of super-secret-squirrel kung fu rinsing method. But the less sensitive nose seems the more likely answer...

I have never really noticed it, but I also don't smell my brush, of which I keep one at each of.the two places I shave at. But I also mix my products with wild abandon anyway so it wouldn't really bother me.

I give mine a good rinse and don't worry about it,
I use whatever soap fits my fancy for the day and yes I have a few that leave a light linger of scent on the brush.
By the time I have soaked and loaded the brush I can only smell what I am currently using.

I rinse and squeeze until all of the soap traces are gone and then shake well and hang upside down to dry. It's not a smell thing cause I've asked others to test and they don't smell anything either. Now maybe if I asked my Husky she would have something to say about it though.

Some soaps/creams have a very strong scent,you can smell it in the end of shaving as the brush dries in the self
Some don't and in the end of rinsing the brush does not have almost nothing
Nevertheless ,if you have many brushes when you get an "old" one and soak it for your next shaving won't have anything on it.

I also use the Van Der Hagen brush with The Art of Shaving Sandalwood cream and really enjoy the combo. For the money the Van Der Hagen did great. It retained a little of the scent but that doesn't bother me. I would think that one could soak the brush in Dawn (original) dish soap to clean it out.
