I'm considering getting a Dopp kit of some kind. I'd like it to be leather and under $50 if possible.

This looks interesting
be sure and click on the multi-view, and then 'View 6', which shows how the Dopp kit unzips from the bottom of the unit.
I've never used one of these, but I like the idea...
