Gentlemen,
My good friend Ray (SRP member Walleyman) made a brush recently that grabbed my eye. I asked him to make one for me, and he did, and here are my thoughts on it.
The knot is a 24 mm premium silvertip from The Golden Nib with medium backbone, good flow-through and angel sweet tips. Since I face lather, Ray set the loft low, about 52 mm. The handle's shape somewhat resembles that on Simpson's Persian Jar.
Because the handle is made of metal, brass I believe, it is also heavy. That takes getting used to even though the shape compensates for some of the weight. I have lathered with it three or four times and am already getting comfortable with the weight.
The workmanship on the brush is superb, especially in combining the different colored metals, for mine gold framing a deep burgundy, and that tells a lot about Ray's craftsmanship. The only drawback to this brush for now is the handle's weight, but I'm sure in time it will be hardly noticeable.
Good show, Ray, and thanks for your artist's touch.
