Boar stinks bad too. Try the borax.
Clean the badger hair, as you would clean your own hair, just my thoughts,,,
Yep, boar hair brushes smell bad for a while. I've used shampoo on them, but find just keep using them for a while and the smell goes away in time. I have never tried the borax treatment, but that may work.

Both can be smelly, I've been following the Dawn dishwashing soap and lather method described below "Getting the Funk Out", the choice of soap or cream doesn't matter. Basically wash with Dawn, then lather and let dry. Rinse and repeat ..
