All these brush posts everywhere I thought I would share this shave bowl I recently purchased.
I stumbled across it while looking for razors and had to have it. I was using a pretty shitty mug and realized this was bigger, the inside was rough enough to help build a good lather and it would retain heat like a champ. Ooh and it was not made in China!

Oooo.. that's nice! I love my scuttle mugs. Took lather to a whole new level.
I like it. Those dimples in it would help with making lather nicely.
Well, tell us, where did you find this little gem.
Right here.. really nice guy, he lives in Turkey and that is from a local craftsman so they are all one of a kind. Transit time takes a couple of weeks because it is international but dealing with him on some other items from Turkey I wanted. One being a coffee grinder which he was nice enough to go to the local market and source one for me at half the cost of the crap online.

PS, I do have one of the Turkish Shave bowls and it is worth the money.
I use this one because it holds heat longer.

I purchased that Turkish copper mug a couple years ago from Best Shaves, the Turkish site, and used it a few times. It is quite handsome as well as a conversation piece. If you expect a heavy copper mug, it is not; rather, it is thin and light. It works, though, and I'm sure you'll enjoy using it. A few months ago I passed it on to a friend here in town. Good stuff.
I gave it a run this morning and I have to say it was stellar. I ran the hot water in the sink and filled it letting it sit while I walked the dogs. Dropped in the brush while I gathered everything then dumped out most except for the very bottom where I left just enough to work the lather and it worked like a champ. Probably the best lather I have ever made to be honest. I thoroughly enjoyed it too breaking out the Wade & Butcher I got back from a hone that another SRP member cosperryan had recently finished up for me. He was not lying when he said that W&B shaves like a dream too. Enough about my shave porn.. hope everyone enjoyed the bowl. I spoke to the person I bought it from and he mentioned there was a smaller version the craftsman had made and I had him snap one of those up for me too and bought it for travel. I'll post that one up when it arrives.
Agreed, it is not a heavy bowl/mug at all but a very fine piece of work and I rather like it that way as too heavy would make it seem like cookware to me. ;)Quote:
