Thanked: 12That looks like a VDH boar in your picture. I have the same one in black. it was my first boar brush. I did alright with it but found it lacking for bowl lathering hard soaps. Purchased a Semogue 2000 and couldn't believe the difference. Bowl lathering is a sinch with the longer loft and better backbone. I prefer the "scritchyness" of a boar. You get a lot of bang for your buck with a boar.

I have a slough of excellent badgers that sit in my storage unused. I have a vintage Rubberset 400 with the original boar knot and a C. Monkhouse reknotted in a TGN unbleached boar that I use almost exclusively. My suggestion would be to pick up the Omega of your choice (I believe the Omega knots to be superior to those of Semogue, opinions vary however...) or find a cool vintage brush and re-knot that sucker with a TGN.
!! Enjoy the exquisite taste sharpening sharpening taste exquisite smooth. Please taste the taste enough to ride cutlery.

The Semogue 1305 and 830 are essentially the same brush with different handles. There are reported problems regarding paint chipping and/or peeling on the 1305. No such worry on the 830 (which is what I have). It's a nice enough brush but my all-time favorite is the Omega 11126.

Like entropy1049, I have a vintage Rubberset with a boar knot. It was NOS, still in the original box. I paid around $10 for it on ebay. Until then, I exclusively used good badger brushes. Now that it's broke in, I LOVE it, especially since I bowl lather with reasonably hard soaps. It's my "go-to" brush when I have a few days of growth.

I have culled all but two badgers from my den and now sit with a collection of boars.
I never reach for badger.
Out of the box, the Omega 10066 is hard to beat. If you can swing the price the Semogue Owners Club is about as luxurious as one could want. But to really get the game in play, try an Omega or a Semogue 2000 or SoC transplanted into an Oscar1953 handle. That's about all one needs in life.

Gentlemen,
I have gone through a parade of boar bristle brushes and liked some and some not. All are gone except for the 1305 and the Owners Club. I prefer badger, silvertip only, but if I were to choose one boar as a favorite, it would be the Owners Club in the cherry wood handle.
