Is there like a hate campaign for this brand?Let me in on the secret, if indeed there is one.

Why would there be a hate campaign? The are solid performers. The V2 fibres give any other synthetic brush a run for their money, especially the much more expensive Simpson brushes.
However, synthetics are synthetics, and you cannot sensibly compare them to silvertip badger brushes. For starters, their water retention is totally different. The Mühles I tested worked well enough, but I still prefer a high quality silvertip badger (which, admittedly, costs five times as much or more).

Thanked: 3223I don't think there is a hate campaign on for the brand. I think it is a mostly overlooked brand in this forum is all. I had a Muhle STF synthetic in XL size that I had HARRYWALLY use the knot from to make a custom brush for me with the loft lowered. I liked the Muhle originally and like the knot even more reset to a lower loft in the custom brush. I also have have one of their Retro silver tip badger brushes. To me that has a huge bloom for the sized knot it is, has a bit if scrtitch/scratch if you are a face latherer and is fairly densely packed. It is very different from my 2 band badger and Manchurian Badger. I like variety and the difference. Neither brush has been a shedder. Here is my initial impression of the retro http://straightrazorpalace.com/brush...ave-brush.html , Nothing much has changed.
If you are referring to the carbon fiber handled brush in your post, I would gag at the price to be perfectly honest.

Oh, right. He meant that brush. The price is, indeed, ridiculous. That is a 22m knot, ie a small one.
For the record, there are two types of badger hair (three if you include black, which is used for paint-brushes): grey, and silver. Everything else is marketing. Depending on how exactly the knot is produced, it could be anything from USD5 for something dyed blonde, then cut into shape, to USD 75 for something handmade in Germany with select hairs.
Whether paying USD500 for a handle is a sensible decision is probably a question for which one will not find a sensible answer in a forum where even larger sums are paid for export quality razors.

I don't think I've ever heard someone complain about any Muhle product. They sell quality mdse.Their brushes seem to be solid performers.
Personally, I wouldn't pay much for any synthetic but that's me. I'm not a fan of them.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Ah, Nelson? He is apparently talking about a USD500 badger brush by the guys who also make this thing. No, wait, this gets better and better - how about this dynamic duo?
Obie, I would not say that Mühle make "fine" brushes. They make "mediocre" brushes. Solid middle-of-the-road quality from Germany. If money is an issue for you, you will get the same quality from the usual Chinese child slave labour retailers for a fraction of the money.
If I wanted to burn cash for an unusual brush actually worth its money, I would buy a Pils. And a Pils DE to go with that. Yeah, I know, some people here make wonderful, wonderful custom brushes and all that. But I know who makes the Pils knots, and I trust them. And Pils are from Swabia. Like Mercedes, or Porsche. You can expect that sort of precision from their products.

Obie just a wrong choice of words on my behalf, it's only because if you look on page 4... a member had asked for a review on one.
90 views no replys so i assumed no one had any love for them that's all. Sorry it was naive in me saying that, forgive me.
I then realized people might not have one to give a review on , stupid.

Oh, it happens. While this site excels in high quality (or, at least, high price) razors, its range of brushes used is a lot more pedestrian. The vast majority seem to be using southern European brushes (Semogue, for example, who make excellent entry level brushes for very reasonable money), or something built from USD5 Chinese import knots. Which I personally believe to be a bit of a shame. Good lather is far more important than a hyped razor, and a high quality brush will ultimately deliver better lather than an entry level one. Not much, but it will give you the extra kick.
That particular Mühle you mentioned? I would maybe pay something like USD 120 for it. If I thought that carbon fibre and vintage razors went along well. Which I do not. I think that brush looks incredibly tacky, like all carbon fibre products (yes, including dashboard trimmings in German cars). Maybe things are different in your area, but I consider carbon fibre very working class. Which is fine, unless somebody wants USD 500 for a carbon fibre brush of tiny proportions.Last edited by RobinK; 12-02-2014 at 08:13 PM.
