Nothing fancy but got tired of the chipped paint and wood cracking.....now it looks like an old sailing ship wood railing. I probably should have used marine varnish on the handle, but didn't want to spend $20 in chemicals to restore a $17 brush. This Cabot stains and seals and water beads off of the handle so it's pretty good to go.

I have a chipping 1305 that I use as a travel brush...it is starting to look like one of those chop-shop project cars....
How did you remove that paint that wants to stay?
I used the heavy end of a butter knife to crack the paint like an M&M and then a bench grinder with a wire wheel to knock everything off. Then lots hand sanding. The best sanding medium was the foam sandpaper

Any idea why some 1305's de-paint with use? I've had one a couple of years, use it almost daily and paint still looks new. What's up with that? User hard service or poor production practices back in the old country?
I think with me, it was dropping the brush from the top of the shower one or two times, which caused the paint to initially crack. Then I didn't realize that I shouldn't submerge the handle of this brush because of the wood underneath. Some of them micro-cracking in the paint allowed water to seep into the wooden handle which caused it to swell. I don't think that it is necessarily a problem with the Semogues if you take care of it. I obviously abused mine a tad.

I chalked my failure up to my exuberant brush soaking - sometimes I get distracted and the 5-15 minute soak turns in to a couple of hours...
Note in the OP the small crack in the handle....

Wow that looks incredible. GREAT job. I used mine tonight with some Body Shop Maca Root Shave soap. I had so much lather, I couldn't believe I EVER contemplated parting with this brush. When it's running well, this is my favorite brush to use now.Quote:
