My Perfect Brush Handle

Gentlemen,

The brush is the nucleus of the wet shaving world. I can't see my morning shave without it. Throughout the years, I have journeyed through a big collection of shaving brushes, from silvertip to pure badger, boar to horse, and, yes, now synthetic, from Thater to Simpson, Kent to Rooney, Semogue to Omega. I have liked some, disliked others.

What makes the perfect brush for me is the combination of hair type, knot size and shape, and handle. Yes, the handle. I have yet to find that perfect brush. Perhaps it doesn't even exist, who knows?

Yet I am closest than ever to the perfect brush handle, if not perfect. Perfect for me, I should emphasize. That handle is on the Simpson Milk Churn model. I love this handle. It fits my hands perfectly, with the perfect weight and grip, and the perfect feel in the hands. That the Simpson Milk Churn is in "best" badger takes a few stars away from this brush. Had the knot been in the Simpson "super" grade, the brush would have been celestial. Still, I love this brush, especially for the handle.

Indeed, the Simpson Milk Churn has my favorite brush handle.

Gentlemen, what is your favorite brush handle?

I think my perfect brush handle would be like a doorknob, with a long enough "neck" such that I wouldn't bang my hand or the "knob" on the mug/bowl.

Have made several soild Ivory and composit Milkchurns in the past,A great handle.

Great work, my friend. I especially like the handles on the two on the right; they are closes to the Simpson Milk Churn handle, although these look a wee bit taller.

Not Going to happen Obie,do not do Ivory handles anymore.

I have yet to find mine Obie, but when I do, it will have decent weight, comfortable shape and be trippy.

I dig the big ones. This one seems perfect!

I like natural uniqueness. Plain colors just don't appeal to me.

Yeah, but you can still turn some modern equivalents, substitutes?

This one seems to be in the lead at the moment but we haven't stopped looking yet.

Pointless me commenting on this as I only a old Butterfly boar brush I inherited from my GD
And my EJ best badger Ive had since starting this journey and the badger wins
But I love to see what other find as thee preffered option before I lash out on a new brush eventually

Here they are. If I sold all my brushes I would need these three. The Kent Bk4, the Simpson Chubby 2 in Super and the Vulfix 377 in Silvertip.

Jim, which offers your favorite handle?

The 377. It is big and a bit on the heavy side but held in the the middle of the handle it is well balanced and feels like I am lathering with just the tips of the brush. Vulfix Silvertip is the equivalent of Simpson Super.

sharpton, sorry all your stuff fell over before you got the shot. Still looks good though.....that brush is a looker.

I'm with you on the Simpson Chubby 2 Super - the ultimate scritchy, backbone brush as far as I'm concerned. Number one for me would be my Plisson #10 HMW Badger...loads perfectly, lathers superbly whether hard soap, croap or cream, and both are the perfect size for me.

If I had to pick probably my Ivory handled is my favorite but as far as use goes the beehive is the most user friendly.

I definitely prefer the Beehive shape. i have 3 custom made beehives, 2 from aremour and one from El Druida. The aremours are identical handles made from an exotic very hard and heavy wood that the name of escapes me at the moment. One has a HMW Silvertip and the other a 2 Band. The El Druida is an ebony wood handle with gen 4 synthetic knot.
As far as off the rack Beehives have my heart as well and the Vie-Long Beehive is my brush handle of choice. I Have a Silvertip, 2 Badger/Horse Mixes, and a Horse. The All horse knot is butterscotch in color and is my favorite color. The other 2 Vie-Longs are ivory in color.Attachment 199999Attachment 200000

yep that's why im getting it fixed , cause it is my favorite, all the others I have are great brushed , but that one is like an old pair of well worn boots , they just fit you, I may be buried with that brush so I can use it in the afterlife !!!!!!

now the second favorite in my hand as far as comfortable , the Simpson Chubby 2 I have it in the synthetic, but may have to have Bill make me one of his creations in that style with a badger 2 band set low hummm next brush for the addiction tc
