In love with my boar!

Well, I've always been a badger kind of guy, and have some great ones. About a year ago I got a Semogue 620 boar, used it off and on for a few weeks, and then shelved it for a while.

Recently, I was rearranging and decided to give it another chance. It wound up moving to the top spot in my rotation for the last week. I soaked it while stropping and then used it on a variety of my harder soaps such as MWF, Maggards Lime & Bergamot, Ogallala Bay Rum, etc. with each of them, it built a rich creamy lather and did a great job of face lathering for me. I love it and will keep working my way through the stash of my hard soaps.

Most interesting, I looked back and found that I only paid $21.95 for it! New favorite!

Honesty I hated it for at least 1 month, but after it broke in I love it for soaps

I was a Badger-Man all the way, up until about two years ago..

Now I have moved out all of the badgers, except three, and have a full arsenal of boar brushes. I have no interest in the badger anymore.

I am a boar-whore all the way.

It was the opposite for me. All my life I have used a an inexpensive boar brush until I joined up here a few years ago. As of yesterday I now have 3 in rotation with my badgers and synthetics. The local Salvation Army store had a nib Omega 10066 for 2 bucks which I could not resist even though I already one. Looking forward to breaking it in over the next few weeks.

I think Glen brought up a good point in his post. It does take a while for a boar to break in fully. I wonder how many people give up on a boar brush before it has broken not realizing how it takes to break in.

I'll bet a lot of people do give up on their brushes saying this brush sucks etc. After about 3 months of everyday use my boar brush is mint. It was good after a few weeks but that 3 months is where it hit the sweet spot for me. Builds awesome lather. I love omega boar. Have fun breaking in the omega Bob they are quality brushes!

The Boar brush that came with my VDH kit was very scratchy when I first purchased it. Now that it is broken in, it is a very comfortable brush, and still has a nice backbone for harder soaps. Don't give up on your Boar brushes.

I have a Best Badger, a Silvertip Badger, a Vie-Long Horse, and an Omega Boar. Only used the boar a few times, and I think I need to use it more often to get it broken in. I like it okay, but am reserving judgement until it gets sufficient usage.

Yes, reserving judgement is a good idea. Give it at least 2-3 weeks of every day use to break in. You may be surprised at the difference that makes.

Use it and abuse it . It takes a beating, aggressive lathering and brush loading only makes them better and softer. Hard soap pucks are conquered and produce rich lathers. I think they are great shaving brushes the nay sayers wont convince me otherwise.

Omega 11126. Still my favorite after many years.

This is mine. Much more "paint brush", then my other brushes (even the horse hair) but that is why I went with it.

I must agree. I only have three brushes at current time. First one VDH premium boar, second semogue 1305, andVDH LUXURY. As ugly as it is and now that its broke in and all the loose hair has fallen out the VDH premium is my best, but running a very close race w/ the 1305. The luxury seems like the knot is slightly above the handle and bristles seem thin which in terms harder to load the bristles with other than their own soaps. Probably great w/creams , but don't care for them.

Probably 70 or so years ago most men used boar brushes. They must have known something.

Besides the nice brushes ya got there. I seem to spy a six string and amp. What do you rock out to. I myself heavy metal. Keeps my bristles straight, shakes the water out of them pretty good too. 75 watt line 6 spider II[emoji41]

A versatile animal good for Bacon, Baby Back ribs, Chops and Shaving.
Sounds like mans best friend to me only the dogs cornered that market.

And a rogue Vulfix. I am sure I missed a few.

The first brush I purchased was a Vulfix and I knew nothing about breaking it in. I sold it after a week or two of using it..

Actually Harold the Chinese eat badgers thats why we get the brushes but yeah no bacon.

Boars are trusted and beloved.
