hmmmm. I think you should do a test patch. I would think the hard part would be to separate the under wool from the guard hair without making a mess of the guard hairs, so they are all nice and neat and laying in one direction.

Umm AK did you cut/trim the hairs to shape ?
I seem to remember seeing 2 different containers in a video of making knots like what's his name :<0) said. 1 of them created a fan shape and the other a bulb. The thing is with badger is that the ends are the soft part and if you cut them you lose that softness.
No I just stacked them flat and trimmed .Obviously wouldn't work with badger and if this works I have one mor brush,if not no big deal as I don't watch much tv so I have lots of time to tinker.I made a handle out of walnut just have to put the hole in the end.I did use the knots to see if they would work and the longer one actually worked great. The short one is a bit stiff.
Take the horsehair and get it approximately all even on at least one side. Tie a string in the middle and fold the hair in half. Pull the string thru a tube of appropriate diameter so as to pack it tightly. Trim the business end to a nice, neat length and shape. Zip tie the (currently folded) handle end tightly. Cut the folded, string end flush. Epoxy the heck out of it.

Ok so I have a very small lathe made by dremel that I've had for years.I was able to make a passable brush handle out of walnut on it.Then over to the mill for a hole.Glued in my homemade knot and threw on a couple coats of tru-oil.Now to test it out.
So there aren't any badgers in Alaska but we have a good supply of Wolverine.Hmmm I don't believe I've ever seen a wolverine brush.Attachment 228153Attachment 228154
That turned out pretty darn nice. I'm curious how it's going to lather for you.
It lathers rather well.Attachment 228248
