This is normal behavior of boar hair. It is called breaking in of the knot. As the hairs split the knot will feel softer on the face.
Yup, like Stefan says it is perfectly normal.

It is fun to break in a split tail....., there I go again, mind in the gutter.. Dang me.
Yes. As previous posters have mentioned, it is most desirable. Especially in the context of a boar brush. When the ends begin split, the brush is breaking in, and a broken in brush holds lather better and feels smoother on the face( Arguably, as soft as a badger)
As the others have said, this is how a boar brush is broken in, so it is desired.
The split ends will make the tips of the brush softer, and it will still maintain great backbone.
