PJ1 or PJ2 height of base / best or super

Hi All, I've got a question I could really use some help with.

On the Simpson's site they list the PJ1 as 95mm and the PJ2 as 105mm. I have the PJ1 in best badger and the total height is 95mm - the base is about 53mm. Could someone just confirm that with the PJ2 the height difference is only in the hair length and not the base itself? Or is it the base?

Another matter is, I'm not really a brush guy. I bought my brush about 7 years ago and since then it's been the only one I've had. But like me, it's got a lot of hair left on the sides but not much in the centre so I'd like to get a new one now.
Mine is best badger, but I'm thinking of super badger. Could anyone clarify what the difference would be?

The Persian Jar 2 has a 22mm knot and the Persian Jar 3 a 24mm knot. Never had the Persian Jar 1. I don't care for the Simpson "best" knot; my 2 and 3 were in super badger.

The Super is some good stuff. I'd say you couldn't go wrong with the Super badger. I have a PJ3 Super from the Somerset years and it has a 57mm handle, a 53mm loft with delightfully scritchy bristles. Not sure if the Isle of Man production is identical in dimensions.

I have spoken to Mark Watterson (MD of Simpsons) a few times in regards to difference of the 3 main badger grades that he sells. He view was: bang for buck, Best wins hands down, but his favourite was Manchurian. He also made a nice analogy: different grades are like cars, at the end of the day they all get you from A to B but the Porsche 911 (if I remember correctly) gets you there in a bit more style.

Thanks, Mark. Well I just ordered the PJ2 in super so I'll soon find out and make a comment on the difference. I have to say that I've been very happy with best in mine. I've enjoyed using it every single time, and by rough calculation it's given me about 2,300 shaves. :)

2300 enjoyable shaves for a brush, divided by price per use, thats almost like giving it away!

I'd love a PJ 1 in Manchurian ... but not the custom price tag!
