Good evening gents.
I got old brushes from my uncle.
The bristle look dry.
Is there a way to bring them back to life?
I also got a scuttle (stamp england under it)
A genco straight henry's xxx ( found x and xx on ebay but no xxx) anyone knows why?
And a paddle strop with compartement to store the Razor.
I will put som pics tomorrow.

I'm sure someone with brush experience can help you rejuvenate your brushes. Nice score on the other gear!

A lot of people replace the old knots

Depends on the actual condition. You can try some shampoo with conditioner and see what happens. Usually if the hair is deteriorated there isn't much you can do. It's not like leather where you can bring a lot of it back to life.

I have used gentle shampoo and then soaked in conditioner for a while then rinsed. This has worked well on several vintage brushes that I have that the knots were in decent shape. One does lose hair every use so I will probably have to replace that knot soon.

Very nice acquisitions from your uncle. I got a couple of vintage razors from my uncle when he died. I don't know whether he every used them, or whether they were used by his father. One was a Wolstenholm pipe razor in great condition except the celluloid scales, which being over 100 years old, cracked at the pivot when I tried honing and shaving with the razor.
It looks like your razor is in great condition, including the scales. With the brushes, the shampoo and conditioner might work, but if it doesn't, try to coat the bristles with glycerin.

I am not a boar brush fan, so the one in the middle does not look good to me, but the other two look good. There are a couple of guys in Canada that do brush work, so help is fairly close. Check out their work in the brush makers alcove.
Genco razors are very good. There are also several guys in Canada that hone, Badgister is one of them and he is also in Quebec.
I would get a different razor to learn with.
The strop case looks good. A couple of hanging strops would be a big bonus, although I think they would best be saved until you are finished nicking up your strop.
You are a lucky man!
