Nom Brushes

I got a couple of brushes in today.

They were pretty inexpensive!

The boar has the backbone I want from a boar, and no scent whatsoever! Woot! I’m going to do the whole soak, lather, and soften the tips thing, but you could use it out of the box. The wood feels a little cheap, but I like it!

The “black” however, feels like one of my wife’s makeup brushes that cost ten bazillion bucks. It’s soft! But it’s got some back! Not as much as the boar, but it could scrape at a triple mill I’m thinking. If it holds water, this could easily be the one that could do it all.

I’ll let you guys know but... for the price, I feel like I robbed someone.

I just gave the “Black” a good run over a croap that I don’t necessarily like anymore. The Black is my Simpson Comidor. Literally. It acts exactly like my Simpson. So it’s ok on soaps, but not the best on a triple mill hard soap. But I think it’s just a touch softer. It held a good amount of water too!

If I used creams every day, I could switch between these perfectly. Alas, I rarely do short of reviewing something for a week. So I’ve put it on display mode, for now! My Simpson I honestly believe is dying, so if/when that happens, it’ll be replaced with this Nom. And I’ll be absolutely fine with it. I actually feel like I got robbed the extra 60 the Simpson cost over this.

The boar should be interesting.

Just so you know, the Nom brushes are Mühle’s budget line of brushes. The store where I bought them were sold out of the “black” brushes in two days flat! They are a popular brush in Europe it seems, and I can see why if you use a lot of creams. SO SOFT. But yeah, meh.

The badger however! Well now, this is like reeling in a barracuda! 3 hours of fight, but oh the satisfaction of getting her on the hard! I took the time to condition it but oh how She makes short work of a hard puck - and feels great on my face now too! It never smelled! Two of these, at under $50, I’d be set for a decade. I like it!

Funny, the only badger brush I don't really care for is my Muhle Retro with a big floppy 3 band knot that sucks up soap and hates to give up lather. OTH I really like my Muhle STF XL brush.

The muhle STF (Gen4 fibre) is the best on the market IMO. I have the v1, v2 and Frank Shaving new in-house fibre which mimics the STF v2 perfectly.
