Thread: Preparing a synthetic shaving brush

I know that you don't need to soak a synthetic shaving brush before using it, but how many seconds do you have to rinse it under the faucet?

With the one brush I use that has a synthetic knot I put water on my soap and dip the brush in a cup of hot water, hot tap water that is. It seems to be effective. Because it does not hold very much water, it is not time dependant, I suspect a quick pas under the faucet will get it as wet as it can get.

I just dip the tips of the knot in the water and give it a shake before loading the brush with soap from a puck. While loading the soap I repeat the dipping as needed till I have enough paste like soap in the knot to face lather. Face lathering I add water by dipping the tips in the water and giving it a quick shake till I get the lather I want. Very similar for face lathering with a cream.

As RezDog says synthetic knots do not hold water well so if you don't shake the excess water out you will eventually wind up with water/lather running down the brush onto your hand. Kind of messy.
