    Default New to me .....

    .
    .
I finished rounding up all my shaving brushes and 2 of them looked different from the Badger, Boar, Bristle and synthetics.
So I started searching and found out these are Horse Hair shaving brushes!
I will give them a try tomorrow during my next shave.

Mine did not have a lot of backbone but was quite soft. At the right loft they should be very good brushes.

You say that horse hair makes a soft brush? I've saved enough horse hair from old violin bows to make my own but never got around to making it. Might have to give it a try.

Certainly worth a try but how would the hair from a bow be treated?

At a minimun I would assume it would be all waxed up.

A long time ago Horsehair was the brush for the common man. Then the Anthrax scares came and they switched to Boar. Badger was for the wealthy.

Horsehair brushes are very soft. I have shoe brush which is horse and it is very soft even for shoes. Talc brushes are also traditionally horse.

Brushes made of horse hair use mane or tail hair and I forget what the difference is, may be smell. I have one with blond hair that I find too prickly for face lathering. It does work well for getting all the crud and dust off my dash panel and console though. Works a treat too for brushing felt hats.

I have a Talc Brush of horse hair. I use it for dusting my radio equipment.

I use a synthetic brush from the Body Shop to brush my keyboard etc. it's horrible as a shaving brush but keeps my computer stuff nice and dust free.

Actually just rosin. I don't think it would be hard to wash off though.
