This is the thread where you can discuss anything Simpson related or simply show off your Simpson brushes.

I have a few myself. No pics handy but a Chubby 3 Manchurian, a chubby 2 synthetic, a chubby 2 (old) two bander, and the "Hive" in Manchurian.

I've been contemplating getting a CH2 in super since I own one in best out of curiosity so I emailed Simpson and got this response:

"Honestly Aaron, the step up to a CH2 Super is negligible but there is a difference. The Super hairs are slightly finer & the knots feel more densely packed.

If you’ve already got a CH2 in Best I’d personally try another brush, something like the Captain.

A number of years ago a select few makers like Simpson and Rooney and Plisson sold a brush with hair that does not exist anymore (think global warming). Some called it super and some finest and Plisson High Mountain White. It was a true 2 band and feels like no other. The current Manchurian is supposed to be the best now but it's totally different.

If you can find a slightly used one get it. You won't be sorry.

Just ordered a Milk Churn in butterscotch, a Keyhole 4 and a Major, all in best badger directly from Simpson. Which rounds out my Simpson collection, I am now done buying anymore brushes.

Just ordered a Chubby 2 in Super.

Completely agree, the Manchurian today is not as good as it was a number of years ago.

A Chubby 2 in super arrived a few minutes ago!

Congrats, the Chubby 2 Super is an iconic brush. Its very, very dense and a bit of a lather hog but with the right amount of product produces huge amounts of lather

A lather hog? Get a chubby 3. The 2 is a little fella.

Nice brush as all Simpsons are.

Yep, I've had the Chubby 3 in Super and Manchurian, too much of a good thing. Sold them and settled with a Chubby 2 Manchurian. The Goldilocks if you will.

One of these days I'm gonna get a Simpsons in my den:)

You should! These are classic and iconicm high quality brushes!

Shame they don't make a brush with boar bristle. If they did I would probably buy one. Never cared for badger.

Well the first thing that comes to mind is Mark 5:9

...but I don't even like to joke about that. Although it is interesting that the demons were driven out into a herd of pigs.

Badger isn't stiff enough for me. I like bristles with some backbone.

Funny thing is that I didn’t find boar that stiff. It was just scratchy and weird feeling to me. I wanted to like it but it wasn’t working for me at all.

Well, the old saying goes that there are two sides to every story but the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Not all boar is stiff and prickly and not all is is soft with no backbone. However, there is some of both. There is a mix but if you get good boar it will have substance but still be comfortable on the skin. Omega makes some excellent boar bristle brushes.

I'm sure the same is true with badger. I just never used a good one.

Most of my brushes are omega boar and I love them.

It takes a while but my first boar is so soft and comfortable it a real treat.

I have some synthetics too, a couple are nothing to write home about but i have a Rockwell and a Stirling that are amazing.

I have a couple of Badger but not really expensive ones, i find them almost too soft and to be honest I don't much like how their made.

Badger is ok if your face lathering with cream but apart from my Sandalwood my soaps are hard so Boar is great.

You could always send them an email and ask if they would consider it?

Boar brushes like pure badger are considered "cheap" entry level brushes so the variety is quite small. It's the silvertip Badger that you can spend a mint for.

Historically speaking horse was considered the brush for the common man. Then in the late 1800s the Anthrax scares came and horse was out and they needed a replacement and boar got the job.

If you think plain silvertip are too soft try the Manchurian. They have plenty of backbone.

Arriving in a couple of weeks from The Isle of Man: a Milk Churn in butterscotch, a Keyhole 4 in best and a Major in best.

I suppose I could except I'm a crotchety old bastard who's set in his ways. :rofl2: In all seriousness though I have always had good performance from boar bristle and to me a brush is just a tool, a utilitarian thing and not a luxury to throw a lot of money at. I'm not knocking anything for anyone. That's just me.

No ones saying get a brush with some silver handle or other precious material. A good brush is one of those things you buy and if you take care of it and use it all the time it will last a lifetime even if you are in your 20s. I know many of us seem to collect all sorts of shaving paraphernalia but that's a choice.

You can buy one set of hardwear things like razor and strop and shave bowl and brush and just use it forever, literally.

After reading through this thread, and not having bought much shaving gear in the last few years, I went in on the CH3. I’ve had Simpson super badger before and find the best badger to be just as good after a few uses. However, it seems a bit redundant in that the knot seems identical to my PL10. But I got it free with points so it’s all good. Certainly not too big for my taste. I like the lather hogs.

Not disagreeing and I'm also not arguing. I believe in getting something quality and keeping it forever. I just like boar and see nothing wrong with it. In fact I did splurge on one custom made brush; a Gasman's Custom (thanks Jerry) black ebony with white boar bristle which is my go to and one that will be an heirloom one day.

Well I know this is off topic but since I brought it up I feel like I should give Jerry the props he deserves. So here's my pride and joy; a one of a kind Gasman's Custom Brush in all its glory.

I know I was down on boar. But if it’s serving you well, it’s ok by me.

Like they say, there's something for everybody.

I'll post a group photo of all 23 of my Simpsons when my Milk Churn, Keyhole 4 and Major arrive in a week or two....

A Milk Churn in butterscotch, a Keyhole 4 and a Major arrived yesterday afternoon in only 5 days!
