After a shave, I rinse it out/ring it out in warm water, brush it in a dry towel, and then give it some good jerks to get any excess water out of the bristles, then put it on my stand. Is this correct?

I shake off some of the water, give it a gentle squeeze and hang it up to dry. It should last you for long as you live.
I just shake my brush out over the tub when I'm done. The life of your brush will depend on the quality of the brush and how it's taken care of, but a good brush will last a good long time. There are guys who use vintage brushes, so there's evidence that it may last longer than you will. Rubbing it on a dry towel seems a little harsh to me.
My Ever Ready Badger brush belonged to my wife's grandfather, and he's been gone since the mid fifties! My late father in law then used it until his passing four years ago. My wife is so happy it belongs to me now. I hope that has nothing to do with death, though! :roflmao
Anyway, I shake mine out with about ten to a dozen good flicks of the wrist. Make sure all the lather is out, then I turn it upside down on the flat part of its handle to dry. No worries! Never wring out or rub on towels. Just flick the water out and you'll be giving this same brush to one of your loved ones!
