Hot lather w/o a scuttle

While waiting for my georgetown pottery scuttle to arrive I've managed to work a system to keep my lather hot without a scuttle. Since I use a mug to make my lather and while shaving leave the hot water running I decided to try placing my mug in the sink (with drain open) and allow the hot water to run around the mug. Have to be a little careful when rinsing off my razor as not to splash a bunch of water into my lather but so far it's worked great. Also just have to make sure not to put the mug under the running water (obviously)!

I've noticed that the lather gets a bit thicker as the shave progresses doing this, because of the heat, and I have to add a few drops of water to it now and then and whip it up again before re-lathering but the lather definately stays warm w/o using a scuttle.

Sometimes if it's a little too thin for my liking I can let the lather soak in and strop the razor a bit while my mug sits in the sink with the hot water running, by the time I'm done it's usually thickened up a little and I can use a hot towel over the lather before re-lathering with warm lather thats a bit thicker.

Cool, I'm waiting for my G-town too. Did they happen to mention what their time frame is from order to delivery? i forgot to ask.

That's very interesting how the lather consistency seems to change. One of the reasons I ordered my scuttle was so that I don't have to fill the sink with a gallon of water just to keep lather hot. I guess in the end it's only a gallon, but hey, every bit counts right?

They told me about two weeks, but it's been way longer than that I was planning on calling them tomorrow to see if maybe my order fell through the cracks somewhere, I don't think they've charged me yet either.

To combat the drying out problem. I wash my face between passes and then I lather my face which adds water to the brush.

You should try this little trick I learned about on here: Get one of those electric coffee cup warmers (~$12 @ probably any drugstore) and put your mug/bowl on top. I preheated my mug w/ hot water & turned the thing on before I stepped in the shower. Hot lather thoughout the shave! Certainly not as pretty as a G-Town, but it works like a charm & it's nice and cheap, too!
