Seems like it would be a nice father's day gift...I know my dad uses a boar brush...but would any of you care enough about a badger if you didn't use a straight or DE? What about a scuttle for the poor Mach-3 user?

If he already uses a boar brush daily, I think he would appreciate a nice badger upgrade. If the brush is just stuck in the back of his bathroom drawer and he uses goo, I don't think he would use a neew one.
I would probably accompany it with some really good soap to use it with if I got it for him too.
As a matter of fact I've been thinking along the same lines lately. The plan is to buy a tweezerman brush and a sample pack from colleen for the men in the family come Christmas. They may not be str8 shaver purists like the rest of us, but they at least need to be introduced to some of the finer things that wet shaving has to offer. This should be inexpensive as well.
My brother was a Mach-3 and canned goo user. He never cared much about shaving, and didn't shave until his wife told him to do so.
So about six months ago i gave him a pure badger brush and a puck of TOBS shaving soap. It was almost a scary change of personality, he started to shave almost every day and taking trips to the bathroom just to smell the soap. Last week he called to tell me that he had ditched the Mach-3 and bought several new soaps and a Merkur HD. Oh yeah, here we go...
yeah, I think it's a great idea. I did the same thing with one of my buddies that I've been trying to proselytize into the straight shaving lifestyle :)
Got him started with a burmashave, once he got used to it, I made him one of my 28mm silvertip and purpleheart brushes, now he is well and truly hooked!
One word.
Soap. If he has the brush then what he is missing is the soap. It can be found at:

Colleen does the best soaps (and would welcome the buisness right now in particular)
Check out her thread on SRP and then go buy your Dad the Cavendish Black or Bay Rum :tu
let us know when he calls saying he bought a straight and a hundred new soaps and creams...i give him less then 3 months...Quote:

It doesn't matter what you "scrape" your face with, you can still enjoy a great brush and quality shaving soap and cream. Ante up for some Kiss My Face Shaving Cream to go with a great brush. Inexpensive but still a great cream!

I am thinking about buying my mach 3 canned goo brother a badger brush and a tub of shaving cream.
I like creams better myself, and I build lather on my face.
I kow he likes to keep things simple so with the cream he wouldn't need a scuttle, nor learn how to build a lather from soap, which is not my favorite passtime either.
I started on this path when I used a brush with my tracII took me a while to convert to mach 3 and longer to a DE but I still loved that brush and cheap soap.
My exroommate to convert to the brush, but he still uses a mach 3 once ran out of his canned stuff and used my brush, he apologised later but said it was the best shave he'd ever had.
I guess I'm saying even disposable users can still find the beauty of a good soap.
I say go for it, I used a brush and soap when I was using my fusion (the newest disposable, replaced the Mach 3 for those of you who are out of the loop), and then started enjoying shaving so much that I bought a HD, followed by a straight.
So you can certainly enjoy a nice shave with a cartridge and brush.
+1
The brush and soap/cream hot lather was one of the biggest improvements in the enjoyment of the shave for me. When I first started here a few years ago, I was using my new straight with canned gel...now, while I can get a shave with just about anything, it is VERY seldom I would do without a brush and lather.
Plant the seed, my friend.
