GP Scuttle vs. Super Scuttle (capacity)
I got my super scuttle today in the mail, I ordered it early last year with intent to have some work done on it, but that didn't work out so I'm just going to use it - particularly after testing it in comparison to my GP Scuttle. The cost of the super scuttle is higher, but the water capacity is huge compared to the GP and the size is not all that much different though it is a bit heftier.
First the lather bowl in the super scuttle is a little bit smaller than the GP scuttle and the walls are noticably much thicker due to, my assumption, a much larger water jacket. So how does the water capacity in the jacket measure up? Look at the pictures yourself.
The GP Scuttle held a total capacity of approximately 3.5 ounces.
The Small Super Scuttle had a total capacity of approximately 12 and 3/4 ounces.
That makes the water capacity of the small super scuttle about 3.64 times larger than that of the GP Scuttle while the scuttle itself is not too much larger than the GP Scuttle.
The lather bowls measure up like this..
Small super scuttle has roughly a 10 ounce lather bowl capacity.
GP Scuttle has roughly a 12 1/4 ounce lather bowl capacity.
Pictures attached. First is GP Scuttle Capacity with second two the Small Super Scuttle Capacity. Last two show the two scuttles side by side. I only photo'd the water being measured from 1 full filling of the water jacket on each, the lather bowl capacity measurements weren't photo'd.
Where can I buy the Super Scuttle?
Who makes the Super Scuttle? Where can I buy one? Got a link?
I ordered a Dirty Bird Scuttle
Thanks, Your post was really helpful. I want a good scuttle, and I want one with enough hot water capacity to keep the lather warm. Since I live in the US, I decided against the German and Canadian options due to the shipping costs. I opted for the Dirty Bird scuttle, in green, handcrafted by Julie Moore at Dirty Bird Pottery in Virginia. It has a 12 ounce water capacity and looks great. Can't wait until it arrives!
