Just finished my own brush!

I just finished my first hand made brush. I have very limited tools for wood working, just a saw and some sand paper, but thought that I would give it a go. I started with a 3x3x3 block of cocobolo and a 28mm silver tip knot. I drilled out the hole for the knot. Then cut down the block into a 6 sided manageable piece of wood. I then sanded the hell out of it, I rounded the top and the bottom leaving the sides slightly flat for better grip. It has a slight taper out to the bottom. I sanded it down to 1500 grit then applied 1 coat of tung oil. I had a great time building this handle and can't wait to do another, I have even been looking a lathes online. I am very pleased with the way it turned out, especially since I have never done anything like that. I would like to know what everyone thinks about it. :D

Thanks I kinda had to go with simple. It is hard to see in the pics but the sides are kinda flat, which gives me a good area to hold. With the exception of 1 the are all real straight. Just small flat areas for your fingers to hold.

Nice job...that is one awesome looking piece of wood!

I'm wondering though how one coat of tung oil is going to hold up. Also since pure tung oil tends to darken when exposed to UV rays I'd keep this beauty out of direct sunlight...I learned that lesson the hard way when years ago I ended up with black teak on my sailboat. :gaah:

The base is 1 7/16" across. I will post some post bloom pics in a couple of days. I plan on using it Monday:D

Very nice work. After seeing several beautiful home made brushes, there is no way I will put my prototype "Moët & Chandon" ugly duck on display here! :D

Some pics of the new brush in full bloom. It is a monster I used it tonight and wow, now I get what all the fuss is over 28mm silver tip. The other brush is my 20mm badger Vulfix.
