Ummm.. One i drink coffee out, the other holds my soap. Dont get them confused.
When I first started I ordered a shaving mug. Now it sits in the corner I replaced it with one I already had. My shaving mug was lighter ceramic, so I switched to a heavy mug used for soup. It hold heat better and stays warm longer. There really is no difference. I did mean soup not soap the one I use now is a soup mug! Its got a nice big mouth and is heavy. And yes it says campbells and is red and white.:D
No. You can use anything what you want.
Here is some of mine what I have tried.
White with the brush is the best for me and I use it every day.

yeah man... don't let the establishment tell you what you have to use for your lather!:rofl2: But seriously, like Tony's white bowl, it's good to have something w/enough room to maneuver the brush. Find something that you think is cool and go nuts.:gl:
Yup. First "mug" I ever used (with my DE, many years before I ever got my hands on a straight) was a blue plastic coffee cup. :D

Like everyone says you can use anything but if you look down in into the Old Spice mugs and the like you see there are "ribs" to hold a puck of soap. If you melt and/or mill your soaps to fit into your mug you won't need those.
Besides I don't think Old Spice makes soap anymore:shrug:, however it does hold Williams.
Functionally, no. No difference. Traditionally, shaving mugs often had initials or occupation designs on them. Individuals often left their mug at the barber shop where it was used only for them. If you do a search on ebay or google, you'll see some examples of collectible shaving mugs. They're kinda neat! :)

Mostly the Logo on the side and the Price !!!!! :D
I still use the Large Sundae Bowl I found at Wally World that cost $2
The heavy base keeps it stable in the sink full of hot water and lets me get a good grip for making lather.. And the heavy thick glass holds heat very well...
I have a couple of vintage mugs and scuttles but they get used once maybe twice a month...

This is what I use. It's a stoneware soup bowl, still can't find the lid to it but it works great...
