I asked The Golden Nib about their knots and how the UK version compared to the standard variety. I thought some of you might be interested so here is their answer.
"The UK knots are Vulfix knots. They are softer, not as stiff, nicely packed but not as dense as my regular silvertips."

I guess being less dense makes them more floppy then, not a preference for me. So thanks for saving me $50!!

Thanks for the research. Like I said in another thread, I like the original. I have not heard many complaints about the original. So I guess it's all about name brands and the money you would to spend.
To be honest with you I bought my first best badger brush for less than a UK knot so I don't think I would go for the extra money. Unless the knot I used completely disintergrates or sheds all over I'll be happy with what I have.

Can you confirm the color and offer any observation on their performance relative to other "silvertip" brushes?
I only have two brushes right now. You saw the silvertip in my restoration thread. My other is a best badger. The silvertip is exactly like others I've seen, and is completely different than the best badger. I wish I had a name brand brush to compare to.
On a related topic, I can't figure out what some of the other members are talking about when they say these brushes have a stench. I'm up to 6 shaves with mine and it smells like shaving soap. Only 4 shedded bristles.
You do not rinse it well enough. ;) Give it a good hair shampoo wash and the soap smell should go away. (you should do that regularly anyway)Quote:
