I really want my first brush to be something custom.
Custom Shaving Brushes was recommended to me but unfortunately as of last weekend Dan has decided not take anymore custom orders. I am wondering if anyone knows of someone or someplace else that can make a custom brush for me?
I'm looking for something out of spalted maple.

I bought one from Dan at Tamwoodworks for my son who is coming home from a 6-month delpoyment in the Navy. Dan is a great guy and so good to work with. It will take quite sometime for it to be made. But when you get it it will blow you away.

tamwoodworks.com he makes a killer brush i got one from him and i loved it i had it for two weeks and my dog got it off the counter and had a good time with it so i cried and feed the dog and got me another brush , now i make my on brushes
Have you thought about making your own custom brush? I don't know what tools you have, but if you even have access to a drill press you could make an awesome brush with some files, sandpaper, and a badger knot.
Spalted wood is available even on ebay, and you don't need all that much for a brush....
I wanted to go through Dan, I mentioned that in my first post. Unfortunately he is not taking custom brush requests anymore as he does not have the time he feels he needs to put to appropriate amount of work into them. The brush I found and wanted is from his site.
Making my own is out of the question, I have no idea where to even start. That sort of thing just really isn't my strong point. Hopefully I can figure something out here, after seeing the brush from Dan's site I don't want to spend my money on anything short of that...

I understand... it's not everybody's thing... what you might do is look through the brush and mug posts and see some of the brushes that people have done (the one on Dan's site was a lathe piece for sure) and maybe you can talk one of them into making you one just like it (wouldn't be hard to pull off for someone with a bit of experience). Just a thought.
there are many out there doing lathe work (not to say they'd do it, but it's worth a shot)

Bern at Shavemac is pretty cool about that. He certainly has the experience and the good badger hair. He has re-bristled an antique silver handled brush for a friend of mine and does work with customers on one off kinds of stuff. He can be a bit slow to answer email but he will eventually. I've got one of his 'special' badger hair brushes and it is very nice.
Bob from bobsrasorworks@aol.com made me two really fine silver tip originals. They are soft, produce a massive lather very quickly. Really works of art. Highly recommended. His website has several samples to view. He'll make them to your specifications. As to unique wood - he does that for sure, but if he can't get wood that is good enough, he'll recommend an alternative.

shavemac is the only way to go for a custom brush.
Jimmy you too? i thought it was just me but i've been trying to email Bernd for about 1 week+ now and i think he's really busy with that group order that he just completed.
i'm thinking of ordering a 18mm D01 for my travel needs.
