Hey lads,
I just got my hands on an Omega 48 professional, can't wait to try it out!
However, I do not have a stand for it, and was wondering if a Boar brush has any issues with drying upside down? Or should I quickly make a DIY stand to let it dry hanging bristles downwards?
Does anyone have any tips for this brush? I'm planning on giving it a good wash with shampoo, letting it soak in hot water, lathering up on TABAC followed by a great shave (I hope).

It's fine to rest on its base, that's what it's there for. To prepare, give it a couple of shampoos if you want, and lather away! It might take a while to break in and really work up to its potential, but once it does, it'll be a prince!

I'm sure it will be great. I had a cheap Omega boar and a cheap omega Badger. I gave the boar to my brother after three weeks, because I got myself the badger. But the badger is not great imo, I preferred the massage from the boar. Now I was surprised with this new brush, so can't wait to use it this evening (although I shaved this morning :fim: ). As soon as my silvertip badger knot arrives I'll start comparing both :-)
I did read somewhere that this boar brush takes a long time to dry, so it's ok that it sits moist for a day upside down like that?
My omega came with a stand, but my Semogue just dries on its base. I let my first boar brush (a cheap CVS VDH) dry on its base the full year I used it without any trouble. I imagine its still fine though I don't use it anymore.
Boar does indeed take a long time to dry. I have found it helps if you have some free time after your shave, take the brush around the house with you and just swirl it on a cloth or something (even your arms works) while you do whatever it is you are doing. It will dry out much much faster.
Jantjeuh, I have a professional Omega boar bristle, a barber's type, this is a big boy I believe the knot is 28mm. I have been using it for over two months and after I use it I rinse it well with cold water, shake the excess water and towel dry the brush. I let it sit over night on top of my sink to dry and thus far I have no problems, it is stone dry the next day.Quote:

You can make your own stand out of a coat hanger or something if you want to.
If other members here stand their brushes on the base and have had no problems then I see no reason why you shouldnt do the same.
Like some other folks out here, I made my brush (a super generic boar)stand from a coat hanger. Cheap, easy, and fine until there is more $ for something fancy...

I must be sick or going crazy... I'm counting down the minutes for the past two hours to stop work and go home, just to be able to lather up with my new boar brush :shrug::ziplip::w
Got it home, smelled it, nothing to foul.. Wet it, washed it, smelled horrible :dropjaw: I shampoo'ed it once now, gave it a rest, will shampoo it again and then, I'll shave
Edit More washes, and still SUCH A HORRIBLE SMELL :D I was NOT expecting it to smell this bad, the entire bathroom smells like a dead bird, aaaaaahaha. I hope it goes away soon :O

Interesting. I have had 3 boar brushes, and no problem with smell from any of them.
In fact, my Omega probably smelled the least. Curious.
Boar's are tough animals unlike those sissy badgers. You can keep it any way you want with no fear.
Of course cousin festus tried keeping his badger upside down but the critter didn't like that at all and bit two of his fingers off.

I read the smell goes away quite fast, it doesn't bother me too much, in fact I'm starting to associate it with shaving already hehe, yes I went to smell and wash that brush at least 20 times since last evening :medvl:
Strange however, the brush (Omega 48 Professional) is HUGE, yet it is not as sloppy as my badger which I would say is MUCH smaller. Pretty nice.
And however said a boar brush is prickly, I don't think you got a good boar in that case...
I've got two badger fur brushes. One sits on the handle base w/the fur in the air and the other hangs upside down. I don't see any differing results.
