Anyone know a good source to get a nice brush holder tube for traveling?I can get a large pill bottle and go this route:.....But I'd like to find something a little nicer.Maybe brushed aluminum or brass or something.I don't really want to buy another brush so a travel brush is not what I want either.If you've run across something nice,please post it here or PM me.
I made my one - it's just an old toilet roll tube, with duck tape wound round it for a little added strength, then card lightly taped over both ends. It's cheap, quick to make from common items, and easily replaced when it falls apart. The only issue is that it's a little narrow, so I have to put it in one and then take it out the other in order to prevent the bristle froms being forced down toward the handle. I'm going to have to make one very soon for my trip home, so if people want I can post pics of my method.
Well,that'd work,but I'm looking for something a little more long-lasting and kind of nicer to look at.

Great idea with the pill bottle! I was also trying to come up with a DIY brush holder. I need to take a trip over to Lowe's and see if anything jumps out at me.
+1 on that! I have yet found anything better than the ubiquitous pill bottle. It keeps the grubby handed TSA at bay!Quote:

The tube is real nice but how would you hold the end caps on provided you could get them turned?

It actually works exceptionally well. I've done this using a turned and hollowed cocobolo blank rather than the acrylic and used curly walnut for the caps.

Off topic a bit - Anyone else find themselves at Home Depot or some other general store trying to repurpose common items into shaving supplies? Dip cups become scuttles, ash trays become soap holders... I even thought about cleaning out a liquid glue container with a sponge top to fill with astringent.:shrug:Quote:

cyclelu - Yes...I have purchased several of these travel tubes--primarily for storage of my brushes. Personaly, I like them. They are not large enough in diameter for large size brishes such as the Simpsons Polo 8, however.
How about my $1 kiddie cup from the local food mart with the built in straw cut out leaving an opening for ventilation?
i have always used empty toilet paper rolls but now i might try and make one with wood, i have a bit of rosewood left from the brush i made and, bonus, it will match my brush lol. ill try this as soon as i get a chance

By the way, I tried the pill bottle solution by going to my local pharmacy and asking for the largest bottle they had ... they were very kind and gave me one at no charge, but the largest they had turned out to be too small for my Thater or my Dovo mid-sizes. Anyone find a source for a pill bottle large enough to contain a typical shave brush? Also, if anyone has bought a case of of the aluminum screw-top cannisters, I would be happy to buy one or two of your "extras".
