Do you soak the entire brush?

For those of you who soak your brush,

Do you soak just the bristles or the entire brush?

I just got a badger brush and I don't want to mess it up, but I'm having a hard time keeping it propped up in my mug while soaking due to the soft bristles. My boar brush used to stay up just fine. It seems like I've seen tutorial videos where guys have their entire brush sitting in a sinkful of water.

What do you think?

I just soak the bristles but, like you, I've seen the whole brush soaking in photos and videos. I don't know if it would hurt anything but I wouldn't do it.

I like my handle dry.;)

I soak... whatever goes under water when I fill up my scuttle. Cause I like to warm the scuttle and brush at the same time.

Wait for more replies from people who do soak the entire brush. IMO it may not do it any harm but it couldn't do it any good. I wouldn't take the chance. You could call a vendor of shaving brushes and ask their opinion.

I leave mine in my scuttle and the scuttle submerged in the sink full of hot water while I shower. I use hot water from the tap, I don't use boiling water.

The glue should be waterproof so that should not be a problem and as long as the knot dries between uses that shouldn't be a problem either.

Personally I don't soak. I just put the brush under hot tap water before use.

I just drop my brush in the sink - the water's not too hot. I also float my soap in the sink, it's the Wilkinson Sword stuff in the blue container. I use the lid to put excess foam in and float that as well. It keeps everything warm. So far it hasn't done any damage to my brush which itself must be at least a hundred years old. I've got a scuttle waiting for me at home though when I get back so I'll be using that to soak my brush from then on.

I completely submerge my brushes when I soak them (Vulfix superbadger and Jaguar boar brushes). Can't say that it's the right thing to do, but I've been doing it for a couple of years with no ill effects. It's sort of an experiment, since I'm kind of hoping it gives me an excuse to buy a much nicer brush one day. :D

The water isn't boiling, but our hot tap water is cranked up waaay too high, so it's hot enough that you can't stick your finger in it for more than a split second without burning.

I fill my scuttle with hot tap water and stand my brush up in the center. I've never noticed how far the brush is underwater. Tomorrow morning I will take note.

After my shower, I dump everything out and just fill the bottom part of my scuttle so I can prep my lather.

Question though.... for those that fill the sink and let the scuttle and brush soak..... are you cleaning the sink every morning before your shave?! That just puts an added task into the prep work of shaving, doesn't it?

I turn on the hot water in the bathroom sink, hold brush under hot water & lay brush in the sink with water running. Hasn't hurt it, good quality badger brush. Doing this for a couple of years. Had a cheap brush that did fall apart once.

When I shave at home I stand the brush in a small cup and fill with very hot water. I fill this up to the level of the bristles and a little over the base of the knot. When I shave at the gym I put the whole brush into the basin, but the water there isn't very hot.

I don't think this should cause any problems because every brush I have, I have glued the knot in myself using water proof epoxy glue.

Well for the last year I've been using the same brush regularly, and I do just submerge the whole brush in a sick full of hot water along with the bowl I make my lather in. I has not adversely affected my brush

I get the water nice and hot, then pull the plunger to start the sink filling, put my big mug under the water, then put the brush in the mug. I usually "pump" the brush once to get the air out. The brush is mostly submerged as I let the water overflow the cup to fill the sink half way as well. I like to pre warm everything ;)

I have a two year old brush. I don't make any special effort to clean, dry, or otherwise manage it. I use it, shake it dry and lay it horizontally on the quaich the soap resides to dry. The brush stays nice, dry, and it does'nt shed.

I usually place my brush in my scuttle, fill it with hot water and then place both in a sink of hot water. No ill effects on the brush to date.

After shaving I make sure to clean the soap/cream out of the brush, shake it dry and hang it--bristles facing down--in my brush stand.

I let my brush sit on top of a piece of soap, which sits in a mug of hot water before each shave. The water level varies, sometimes only the tips of the brush get wet, sometimes half the brush itself is underwater.

It has been this way for about 75 or 100 shaves with one brush and I haven't experienced any ill effects with it that I recognize so far

I submerge only the bristles.

I am new here. I have tried serveral herbal medication for psoriasis.

My friend recommended me to try Dr.Shah psoriasis treatment.

But no luck. It turned out to be of no use. I have natural medicines are the best for psoriasis. Can someone please let me know the ones they would recommend.

I am desparate. Please any feedback would be appreciated.

I soak the whole thing. I'd be more worried about the bristles standing on their end during the soak.
My thinking is this; it's just a shaving brush. As far as getting the handle wet, how on earth could you ever keep it dry? Sure you may not submerge it, wet is wet. That's the way I see at least. At the end of the day they can always be repaired or replaced. Reknotted. But, yes, I do soak my entire brushes. I had a cheap travel kit AOS Pure Badger that the knot fell out of. I got some Gorilla brand super glue and put it back in there. That's been months ago and never a problem. Mind you had it been a Rooney or something like that I'd be contacting the vendor. This was free. But, a damn fine brush. I use it a few times per week.
