New Brush - Handle by jballs918 - Jason
Jason [jballs918] and I had a nice honing session last Saturday and he left in my care a nice Maple brush handle. I trimmed the hole out a little with my Dremel and set a Golden Nib 26mm knot with 30 minute epoxy. This handle was extra large and showed Jason's expertise with his new wood lathe. This is a huge brush [6" total height] that will reach into the deepest lather bowl and still not get your fingers soapy. It now has an honored place on my brush rack and in rotation with the others.
I have some more handles I picked up at the Antique Mall that I hope to work into new brushes by spring. Golden Nib knots are on the way as we speak. The Dremel is a valuable tool when working with handles. I have a wood carving bit with teeth that boars out the old knot with just a little effort. Do this outside. The dust and little hairs go everywhere. First you must cut the bristles as close as you can with scissors or knife. When you are close to having the right size hole for your knot use the small sanding drum to make the hole just a tad larger than the knot. Fit it loosely. Your epoxy will fill in around the knot and make for a perfect fit when it sets. Ok now go make yourself some new brushes for a fraction of the cost of a new name brand one.

Nice collection of brushes!!
I would make myself one in a new york minute if I had a little lathe-
Ergo, last nice I ordered one from one of the sites- a 20mm burl that looks short in the loft real tight- at least i hope it is-
I was thinking 20 mm was small when reading about them and a 25-26 being on the large size- Seems there is no direct standardized relationship between hair base width and the length/loft of the hair portion.
Anyway I got the 20 to replace my current Art of Shaving brush of over 20 years which "appears to be a 20-22 brush and frankly I think its too big, hairs falling out and many akimbo so time for a new one.
