Perfect lathering bowl for 3.99

So I have been on the mission for the perfect lather bowl/scuttle, and although i use scuttles i enjoy me some lather bowls too. So too my surprise when i strolled down to my local target and saw this bowl. Its roughly 4 inchs wide and 2 inches deep, and fits almost picture perfect in my palm, the other kicker is that there are ridges in the bowl that make me think, how is this not for lathering!? HOwever they are not AS prominent as the G5 or Dirtybirds but they r there. Well i picked it up for 3.99 and the result: I love it, its perfect for me lathers pretty quickly, i mixed up some bomb, and what usually takes me a3 min this cut it down dramatically( i dont know could have been a good lathering day on my part) But i love it and for 4 bucks, who cant have one more bowl right? Not to mention this thing is gorgeous! Also Fitting huge brushes would be a problem, it fits my 22 -24 just fine, with some room, probably because of the depth.

Nice gear, i am like you, bought a 0.99p white cereal bowl from a discount store which is so much better than my "proper" shaving mug which cost a lot more.

Yes, they are out there. I have an oversized soup mug which if I wanted to would work nicely. Not fancy like the op's but it heavy and big.

My favorite are the stoneware soup mugs because they're heavy and if you heat them under a stream of hot water they give you warm lather. But they've been scarce at Wal-Mart. I'll be popping over to the local Target to look for the bowl you got. Thanks for advising.

How ironic. I noticed your initial post was on April 28. The day before I was floating through target and bought a beige color version of that same model bowl. How strange is that? And you're right, it's a great lathering bowl, especially with those ridges. Well done, sir. In buying that bowl, your thoughts confirm my initial decision for having spent the money on a most useful lathering bowl, even though I have several lathering bowls and don't need another one. I suppose one more couldn't hurt, especially if it's a good one.

Great minds think alike:D I saw the cream colored bowl, also a very beautiful one indeed good choice Obie, and pretty soon if not already I have Lather Bowl Acquisition Disorder.

I'm off to target as the price is right. I will keep this one heated by placing it in a different bowl that has hot water in it.

Don't forget to check out your local Goodwill, too. To this date, my lathering bowl is one I got for 50 cents. It was so good I splurged and got a backup. ;)

You are right that the ridges make a difference. My favorite bowl is similar, but was made by a art student at a local university. It looks like it's supposed to be a fish curled up with it's scales raised on the bottom of the bowl. Talk about making quick lather. Looks like I need to make a trip to target to check these ones out.

That is too funny, I bought the same exact bowl at target when I was looking for my first lather bowl.:)

I hope you got a dozen at that price.
You can use some for coffee, soup, some for nuts.

Seriously when you find a bowel that just fits the hands
grab an extra or two...

That is really a nice looking lather bowl.

I was on the same mission... For the perfect lather bowl.

I found mine, and right in the kitchen cabinet. It's called a "Grab-It" bowl, and they were made by Corning, and then Pyrex under the "Visions" name.
Now, anything I grab that is soaped up and slippery is bound to slip from my grasp and break... The Grab-It's have a handle. Further, they are a perfect size with steep sides that keeps the lather in the bowl instead of all over the walls.
My wife's, that I commandeered, is white, but yard sale season is here, and on my walk on Sunday I passed a few. I found two of the smoked amber Pyrex versions with glass lids. Those and a half dozen unopened jigsaw puzzles for my Adirondack neighbor who lost her husband days before Thanksgiving last year, brought the bill to an even dollar!

They're not made anymore, but e-bay is full of 'em... Unless you don't mind yard sales...

Perfect lathering bowl for 3.99

Ah! My shaving bowl is a big breakfast bowl that I got in my local supermarket for 1.50 Euros. Try and beat that! OK, it's plain black, not as fancy as yours :boohoo:

I saw them in a stack near some serving platters and immediately went for it. It just set off my radar I guess.

It's labeled as a "Dip bowl" but it did a fantastic job with some Proraso last night. :D

Yep, Im loving it more and more i use it, not bad for 4 bucks, now i just have to find a new shelf or cabinet to house all my scuttles/bowls. Why does variety have to be the spice of life?;)

Had to get 2 - hard to beat that price. Why 2? My son is 12 and he's already asking about SR shaving. Who knows when the testosterone will kick in. As a Boy Scout he's been taught "Be Prepared".

Here's what I use. It's a rice bowl from my local Asian grocery store. It has a narrow stem that fits between my fingers perfectly almost as if it were made for lathering. I paid about .99 for one very much like this:

haha! nice bowl, this is similar to my ventures yesterday. I made a "Thrift Store Scuttle" ... Good find, I may decide to get rid of my scuttle and pic up a nice bowl like yours, as my bathroom is a little on the small side.
