An Experiment
For those who have multiple brushes or wish they did try this:Put a blindfold on, line up all your brushes, just wet and massage on your face. Now tell me not if they are all different but can you identify each specific brush. For those who wish they had multiple brushes do you think you could do that.
I want results! No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

hmm.. this gives me an excuse to pick up a second brush. See if there is a major difference between boar/badger on my face.

Thanked: 13245I think I could tell pretty easy from just the handles, but all that really doesn't matter as I can tell you exactly what the results will be...
Hysterical laughter... From the spousal unit, as she falls over holding her belly, at the sight of me blindfolded testing brushes... At least an hour or two of the shaking of the head, and the inevitable rolling eyes followed by the "Tell me why I married you again" question...

I only have two brushes and have been using them for months so I tihink I'll pass. Maybe if I had a dozen I would not score well

A small twist in your experiment
This is too funny...a couple of months back, I was actually thinking to do exactly this experiment...but for some reason or another, didn't happen. So, I am glad you posted this.
I have 3 brushes:
1. Vulfix 22 mm Super Badger
2. Vestavia 25mm Silvertip
3. Shavemac D01 25mm Silvertip
However, I cannot objectively assess the difference between the three, even when blindfolded, because I know each one of the brushes' characteristics by heart (handle, weight, etc...).
To objectively determine this, what I will need to do is get my wife to rub each of the brushes against my face under; 1) wet, 2) dry, and 3) lathered up, conditions...they do feel different in each state. I will see how my wife reacts to this experiment ...I am sure that, like Glen, I will get a hysterical laugh out of this for a few hours before she agrees to have fun.
This way, I can see if I can tell them apart (of course, blindfolded ). Will keep you posted when she gets back from her business trip early next week.
Cheers,
-Robert

I don't want to say how many brushes I have or the men in the white coats may come for me and I don't mean the Good Humor men. (you have to be a 'certain age' to remember that old joke) I know that I could tell some of them but I'm equally sure that I couldn't identify most blind folded. I've got some scritchy brushes that I believe I could pick out and couple large and soft. Maybe those too. It would be the ones that are in the middle that would confound me.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Another twist....
Try it with beer.
Same beer and a bunch of glasses.
no head
full head
deep glass
shallow glass.
First one brand of beer.
Then test your shave brushes...
Then another brand of beer.
And test your brushes again.
....
No razors.. just brushes and beer.

+1 to Glen and Robert. I have three brushes, but they're all significantly different, and I could easily tell them apart by the handles alone. My Thater is very light but has a soft brush feel. My Simpson is heavy, but has a harsher feel to the bristles, and my vintage Made-Rite has a square acrylic handle that gives it away immediately. I'm sure SWMBO would be happy to participate and help me in a blindfold experiment, though!
Cheers,
Larry

Thanked: 1371I think I have about 10 brushes. Even if I weren't handling the brush, I could easily tell at least four of them by feel alone.
The others, I am not so sure.
