Are the Thater Chubby 1 (22mm brush) handles too small?

Has anyone tried the 22mm Thaters with the octagonal handles? I'm talking about the Chubby series. I usually really like a small brush, but am worried the handle of this brush may be too small. Does anyone have measurements of the handle?

Also, how do you find the 22mm and 24mm compare in terms of size on the face?

I have the Thater 4125/0.

Here are the manufacturer's specifications:
Knot = 22mm
Total Height = 94mm

My measurements:

Knot = 22mm
Loft = ~50mm
Handle Diameter = ~31mm-32mm
Handle Height = ~42mm
Finger Grip Width = ~12mm
Finger Grip Height = ~31mm-32mm
Total Height ~92mm

Compared to My Simpson Chubby 1 Two Band, the Thater has a taller and wider knot and is less dense. The brushes are fairly close in size all things considered.

I have two of these brushes, and I think they are wonderful. The picutres of the unused brush are in that photo album. I just want to try another Two Band Simpson brush. The brush is very soft, but has good backbone. I really like the bulb shape too.

As for comparing the 22mm and 24mm brushes, PM Obie. He has both of them, and from what I have read, seems to like them a lot.

Now to turn the tables. Could you describe the Colonel X2L Two Band brush that is your namesake? Is it good with creams and soaps? How dense? Does the handle feel pretty good? Thanks for any help.

I have the same black Thater brush. The loft on mine is 48mm. It is an excellent performer. At first, I didn't like the small handle. But with use I now quite enjoy it. I find with all brushes, it takes time to know them and to find your own best way of using them. I'm pleased to have a Thater in my collection.
The 22mm/48mm is quite adequate for lathering your face - obviously a 24mm with a higher loft will be much larger - your choice.

I am looking forward to your blog entry on this brush. Do you have the 4125/0 or the 4125/00 model? They are nearly the same, but the 00 model has a shorter loft.

I have both the Thater 22 mm. and the 24 mm. with the octagonal handles. My hands are small and the brushes are perfect sizes for me. They might feel a bit small at first, especially if you're used to bigger handles, but the quality of the brushes spoils you and you quickly adapt to the small handles. Great stuff.

I haven't with mine, but I was wondering if anyone else found that these brushes work well at face lathering. I usually face lather with my Simpson Chubby 1 Two Band. I'll have to try this experiment. Is your 24mm brush more floppy than the 22mm, or does Thater do a good job of proportioning out the brush dimensions for the larger brushes?

I used to face-lather, but now I get much more enjoyment from creating luxurious lather in a shave bowl.

No, I find nothing floppy in the 22 mm. and the 24 mm. These are great brushes with backbone. I am also amazed at how dense yet soft they are. Good stuff.

I must say, though, that these brushes feel a bit smaller than their size counterparts. I think it's just perception due to their density.
