    Default Some brush restorations

So, just very quickly, here's a few brush restorations that I've finished over the past week or so.

The first is an older Rubberset black-and-cream with a 26 mm Silvertip knot from The Golden Nib. I added epoxy and stainless steel nuts to the handle to give it some weight. Not very easy to install the 26 mm knot into a size 3 handle, but it ended up being the right size for this one.

Next is a Certifyd wooden handle, also size 3, which I've restored with a VERY expensive 24mm "UK" Silvertip knot from The Golden Nib. I'm not sure if this knot was worth the price ($60!), but I love these wooden handled brushes right now, so I thought I'd make one with an expensive knot for myself. Anyway, I'll let you know more once I use it.

Next is a dubl duck handle in NOS condition. This was a weird handle to work on, because there was actually very little room inside the collar for installing the new knot. The entire collar is actually solid plastic, which made for a very time-consuming restoration. Because of the shape of the handle, I decided to use a little bit different knot on this one -- The Golden Nib's 24mm "short loft" Silvertip knot. You can see how short this "short loft" knot is from the photos, and although I haven't used the brush yet, I'm kind of curious to see how well this one works.

Last are two C-Mon handles that I have not yet finished, but I could not resist posting photos here. I'm thinking about turning these into a "set" -- one with a badger knot and one with a boar knot.

    Thanks for looking!

    Jeff,

Just a couple of questions for you. Were these all boar brushes to begin with? Is the size 3 brush the one used primarily by barbers.

I ask because I just picked up Rubberset 200-3 in boar today at a garage sale. The collar on mine is white instead of black

Yes, these are all old boar brushes. Personally I prefer boar for shaving so when I find an old boar brush in good condition I just clean it and use it. All of these had boar knots that were long past expiration.

The brush you found sounds cool. Those old Rubbersets are easy to work on and give great results. 200 is the model number and 3 is the size. I don't know if they were popular with barbers but the 200-3 is easily the most popular Rubberset I see. A 24 or 26 mm knot will work, but if you use 26 it's a tight fit.
