ever think about having a crazy or unusual brush handle?

i had been thinking about this for awhile and finally decided to post it.. you ever see something and think "hrmm.. wonder if i could mount a knot on that"

example.. ever wonder about having a brush with a D battery for a handle? now that would of course be a stupid idea.. but what other random objects have you thought about having a brush made out of?

i have this small glass candle holder that for some reason calls me to and asks for a knot.. i keep picking it up and holding it in my hand.. i think it would be perfect.. lemme take a pic.. hold on.

apologies.. i took these with a webcam and tried to use my shirt as a contrast... i'll get a camera one of these days.. (can't wait to start posting an SOTD)

Can't say that I've had those thoughts myself, but that candle holder would make for a very fancy looking brush I'd reckon. Do it!

thanks.. the hole in it is a little over half and inch deep and i like the idea of it pinching the bristles together to give it some backbone.. (similar to the variable loft brush)

but i wonder what will need to be done to get a knot to affix onto the smooth glass surface?

I bought a Simpson PJ1 some time ago and it's been the only brush I've used since. I'm really happy with the design/feel, etc. I think if I could have a handle made of anything I would choose some kind of stone and have a similar design.

But I like your battery example. I would never have thought of that. Perhaps you could have optical fibres for the for the bristles!

Oh dear... I've had this thought many times... But here's my favorite so far...

My brother is a big fan of Dr. Who... He bought a novelty Sonic Screwdriver... My first thought is that I could knot it...

how cool would that be, though!?

oh.. i'm tempted to rig up a brush on an electric drill now.. i would die laughing if you go to face lather and a giant puff of lather magically explodes on your face.

also.. i've love it if a manufacturer had an artsy line of brushes... stuff like handles molded as lightbulbs or rubiks cubes.. stuff you'd expect to find at MOCA.

Your really on to somthing here I would say. On a slightly different jag...I am loving hanging my brush with a lanyard on a hook as apposed to the stand on end,and my brush is a long handled wood with an eyelet that I screwed into the end.I would love to see novelty wood handles like carved figures or totems or gargoyels etc.You could make them hang or stand on end. I am rather intrigued by the power drill idea.....Whhhrrrrrr SPLAT !!! HAHA !! Why not break tradition just a little and be creative...good idea . A baseball would be kind of a nice ergonomic brush maybe ? Or...this is sorta out there but...what about a plastic resin hand holding the brush nub. Thing would always be there to lather you up and you could store it in a black box with a squeeky hinged lid........thank you Thing ! Lurch and Gomez would be proud. just tell me when to stop haha !:)

i just found a headless barbie.. maybe i can rig something up with that.. we'll see.

So......would it be bad form if you attached a brush to a toy pistol. Then evry morning you could first blow yer brains out before taking the blade to yer face ? Outta control here ,gonna hafta stop now ! :medvl:

I wouldn't mind using a small engine piston for a brush handle. Being a mild gear head, it would be fun to shave with a car part.

You could attach it to a straight and brush and shave at the same time-Har har.

If you do want to set a knot into that glass I would suggest sanding that hole first. I don't know what you have available for tools, but I personally would take my scribe and low grit diamond lapping film then rough that opening. As I doubt that you have the film any diamond or carbide tipped scribe will scratch it. This will provide a mechanical bond for the epoxy. Yes I would use epoxy as it will be clear or slightly amber in appearance where gorilla glue would be obvious.

I should carve a couple of odd handles before classes start back up. If I do I'll post them, but of course I have a million other projects that have to be done first.

oh.. i love the doorknob idea.. you guys are really making me think.. i'm also considering using a pistol gripped fencing handle... like this one.

I'm also thinking what about gutting a dog/cat statue, inserting the innards from a stick blender. It could be like the donkey cigarette dispensers!

I'll have to go through my daughter's room tomorrow morning.

we have about 20 of those darn zhu zhu pets around the house.. whenever i can't get the 6 year old in bed i threaten to eat one of the hamsters and she runs and dives under the blankets.

i am now thinking i would love a small tin robot toy for a handle.. there are plenty of unusual artsy toy places on melrose blvd i should look into.

love it , love it, love it, my whole family here at the house is dr who fans, if you find another sonic screwdriver like that, knot it for me and i will use it.

How about a living handle? Keeping a live badger around will actually provide all of your shaving needs. Just hold his back against your face while he thrashes about to lather up, and then flip him over to let the razor sharp claws take care of that stubble.

Heck, it's a complete automatic shaving system! :D

I had a thought a while back, but didn't post it. I'm watching a PnG commercial right now and am thinking why not. We could market a brush to the vibrating 16 blade guys by purchasing the handles from adult stores then gutting them for the innards (you wouldn't want them to look that way!). Make a cheap REPLACEABLE brush from...I don't know...Persian cats. (Don't kill them just cut their hair off!!!) Or even the rare domesticated urban ape. Then sell the idea to PnG for billions!

Love the small piston idea, maybe like the piston out of a weed eater or something...

Of course the pistons I'm used to working on are from a 10.25" bore x 10" stroke... We make ash trays from them...

Think a chrome socket would be a neat idea...

I've often thought of a hula girl from the waist up being the handle and the knot being her crass skirt. Maybe one of these days, I'll get around to carving it.

oh.. i like that idea a lot.. a giant boar knot would work great as a hula girl brush..

How about something a little more utilitarian, like cutting a piece off your finisher. When traveling if your razor ever needs a touchup your good to go.
