Anyone use a synthetic brush?

I just bought my first brush. I love the thing. But my vegan girlfriend asked me if i could get a synthetic brush and if i would use it. I highly doubt badgers are being shaved and their hair harvested while they run around grassy fields playing waiting for it to grow back. But i told her "yeah, i think they may just sheer them like sheep........................"


Ive found a few synthetic online, but no real life reviews. I am keeping my badger hair brush, but id try a synthetic if it wasn't a total waste of cash.

Omega Syntex is my favourite brush. Capturing a badger alive is too much hassle for anyone but a vegan.

I got a Wilkinson sword brush and it works up a great lather, not really that soft though, compared to natural brushes though, but I like the bristles sorta stiff.

Sells an inexpensive synthetic (around $10 or $15) and you can probably find one at your local mall. They also have a couple decent shaving creams (not a big fan of their aftershaves though).

i've owned the bodyshop brush in the past and don't really have anything good to say about it.. other than it dried fast..

however.. i know several people who really like their men-u brush.. only complaint people seem to have is that the handle is very light weight.

also. i've seen a few comparisons on synthetic brushes.. perhaps someone can post a link for you..

mention to your girl that any badger would tear her apart without question on sight.. so she should feel no sympathy towards them..

I use an Omega Lucretia Borgia (643186) quite often. Pretty good brush overall. Much better than the Body Shop synthetic I have IMHO, which is too stiff and springy.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I think ill try that Omega Inspector.

According to an article about brushes the badger hair is merely a by-product of the badger raising industry. They are raised as food. If everyone stopped using badger hair brushes it would probably not save a single badger. Food for thought.

The best synthetic brush I have used is the Vulfix Nylon.

For me, it performs much better than my TOBS synthetic that cost six (6) times as much !

It works a treat for all 'lather products', from hard soaps to creams.

The performance isn't quite as good as my SilverTip bagder brushes, but it is more than good enough for daily use - in fact I have used it exclusively for the last nine (9) months or so :)

Is the Vulfix Nylon brush still being produced/available? I've looked for it and cannot find a vendor. Where/when did you get yours?

I have the body shop's brush and this omega brush

Do yourself a favor and skip the body shop's brush. It's good for the money, but I really like my omega a lot more.

My favorite, too. :)

The Body Shop makes a decent synthetic brush. At $10 a pop it's a pretty good deal too.

You are quite right though; Connaught no longer stock it, and it is no longer mentioned on the Vulfix website :(

I have had a quick trawl on the 'InterWeb', and most vendors seems to be out of stock :(

Thanks for the lead Russ. I may give it a try, although the shipping cost from the UK to US may be a deal breaker on an $8 brush. Good deal for UK buyers though.

Actually, the shipping to the US was only about a dollar more than within the UK. Total for the brush plus international shipping was less than $12. Great deal. Looking forward to seeing if I agree with you Russ. :)

I don't own one, but I've heard good things about Men-u synthetic brushes.
