I guess if you wanted and you were handy you could make something pretty fancy out of wire. You could use Silver Wire jewelers use and other things like bronze too. You could do some fancy braiding with stuff like that.

This is a cool thread. I think Onimaru's magnet idea is brilliant.
The only downside to coat hangers is that their enamel coating is very very thin and gets cracked when you bend them up. So you'll have bare metal of one sort in contact with metal of another sort, and some water between them... that's the recipe for a battery, and also for corrosion.
I speak from experience as a former coat-hanger artisan.
Insulated #12 or #10 solid copper wire is a great medium, if you've got access to scraps of it. Leave the insulation on or you'll have the same corrosion risk as with the coat hanger.
