Is there a go no go brush list?

Hey guys,

I have found the list of razors on the wiki. The recommended to buy and don't waste your money on razor list on there is helpful. Is there such a list for brushes that gives brands that are decent quality and which ones are total junk?

I have a nice Vestavia badger brush and I would like to try a boar brush. I have found Omegas and the Wilkinson sword and vintage brushes out there at reasonable prices but I don't have enough experience to know which ones are good and which ones are junk.

No, we don't have any such list. With razors it's easy because based on origin and price you can pretty well tell however it's not so easy with brushes. First you have different media; synthetic, horse, badger, boar and they all have their price points and paying more doesn't guarantee higher quality and second there is no standard to quality like a razor. You might love a quality in a brush that I hate and can't stand.

The best advice is read the reviews and the past posts and you will see fast enough which brands our members like and I would just stick with those. If you go with unknowns you're on your own.

Brushes are entirely to subjective to have a standard list of go/no go. For example: most do not like the VDH boar brush that you can find at Wal-Mart, CVS, and Walgreens (typically anyway). Me? I have no problems with it given that it usually only retails for l around $7.00. It sheds, but I can generate lather with and I use it for travel so I'm not out that much if I lose it. Some like the Body Shop synthetic brush. Me? I can't stand it because the bristles are too stiff and it's too "scratchy" on my face. I also prefer my $10 boar brush over my $42 badger brush...again, it's a matter of personal preference.

Any of Omega or Semogue boar brushes are a best buy. Badger brushes are up to what you want in a brush. Do you want a little scritch, taller loft so it has a little flop, or do you like short lofted silvertips that feel like a cotton ball on your face.

Gotta say my Omega 48 boar has less stiffness and is softer than my 50$ badger. Some times though I really like that stiff scratchy feeling (mostly when I have 2+days growth)
