Has anyone tried this knot yet?
The price is very reasonable and there's a Lee Valley tools 15 minutes away from me. My almost 40 year old badger brush (yes, I'm the original owner) is still quite serviceable, but I think I can treat myself to a new one soon :)
Lee Valley is a dangerous place. I always spend more than I thought I was going to.
No kidding Jack....I went in there yesterday for $5 worth of magnets and walked out $25 poorer.
I'm considering myself lucky it was only $25, but then again, I've trained myself to stay away from the carving knife and plane sections....those are truly dangerous to your wallet.
I've have no experience with such knot however from what I've seen around the site it would appear to be a typical generic knot, nothing special, just something that gets the job done.
Sounds like its right up my alley then :)

It wasn't even tools.
I got some screw top stacking containers, a nifty geometric template drawing thingie and some pencils....I just can't seem to resist that place.
Ahhhhh, I know. I love it in there...so much wood, so many tools, so many cool things I don't really know how to use....but seem to think I need.
And if you don't find a tool you need, then you can wander over and look at all the pretty cast-iron pulls. Just in case you want to redo your kitchen!

I picked up one of those badger knots a while ago, i couldnt resist the price tag
i have yet to put a handle on it but i looks decent ... tulip shape i believe its called (rounded on top) about 3/4" base diameter i guess never seen water yet and blooms out to about 2" diameter ... stands 2 1/2" high ... seems to be reasonably stiff .... all black bristles .. i would describe it as maybe a "best badger" i cant wait to put a handle on it and giver a whirl!

When I go to Lee Valley, it's the one on King St., usually after work while I'm on the way to pick up SWMBO Jr. from daycare. I try to limit the time I spend as I have a deadline, but I often end up late for the pickup, which inevitably costs me even more. Lee Valley, I maintain, is a dangerous place for a man's wallet. But I love it.

deadrift...I'm not sure what kind of brush it is. All I know is, its badger with some kind of horn handle. I got it from my father as a teenager. A sort of coming of age gift. He got me a brush, a DE razor and a mug of old spice soap and said "here, there's not reason for you to be unshaved anymore" The only part that survived is the brush. It obviously has sentimental value. I've thought of making a new handle for it, as the old one is in pretty rough shape, but I think I'm just going to keep it as is
Joe, you could probably restore that handle and re-knot the brush, if you wanted. Personally, I like the worked-in look and the fact that it's been with you for that long. A family heirloom, if you will.
Great...started looking and now I'm thinking of trying to turn a brush handle. Darn AD's :)
If you have a wood lathe, its very straightforward. There's a ton of different and cheaper woods you can practice on till you get it just right. I'm in the process of getting back into wood turning, but I've found that decent turning tools have skyrocketed in price.
The only tip I can give you is, drill the hole for the knot before you turn the handle. That way, its perfectly centered. Your lathe centre should fit in the hole just fine.
I can't fit a lathe in my apartment, which is probably a good thing :)
Give me a few weeks to finish restoring the old lathe I was given and you're welcome to come over and turn a few handles anytime you like.

Hopefully this isn't too far off topic, but how do you guys feel about the strops they have at LV? They seem small to me, but I'm a knife guy who is getting into straights, so there's a good chance my perspective could be off.
They're a bit small for my taste, and I do not care for their choice of leather.
I'd stick with reputable strop vendors like SRD.
